Shawnee Police continue to investigate after someone fired shots at an occupied vehicle in the Park 67 Apartments near 67th Street and Nieman Road early Tuesday morning.
On Thursday, Major Sam Larson told Operation 100 News that officers were dispatched to respond to an armed disturbance in the 10900 block of West 65th Place around 2 a.m.
"The initial investigation revealed that a shooting occurred and the victim's vehicle was shot while he was in it," Maj. Larson said. "We currently have not found any buildings that have been hit with gunfire."
Operation 100 News reached out to police on Tuesday morning asking for details regarding the reported shots fired call. Captain Jason Brunner responded to the emailed questions with, "the shots fired is currently under investigation so we don't have any details to release at this point."
On Thursday, Major Larson said police are not asking for any assistance in locating anyone involved in the incident.
"Our Investigations Bureau is working with the Johnson County Criminalistics Laboratory Crime Scene Unit on the investigation," Maj. Larson said.
No other details have been released.

Prairie Village Police say they were called to 3000 block of West 69th Street at 3:33 Saturday morning on a report of a mental disturbance.

Officers arrived and contacted a man who was armed with a handgun.
"The subject fired shots and fled the area on foot," Prairie Village Police Captain Byron Roberson said in a news release. "A perimeter was set up with the assistance of a number of outside agencies."
Officers from across Johnson County responded to the calls for assistance from the Prairie Village officers who had contacted the man.
Those officers surrounded the north side of the Indian Hills Golf Course and the Country Club at 6847 Tomahawk Road. Several employees were evacuated from the building and moved to a nearby parking lot, just outside of the search area.

Recorded radio traffic from the officers in the area indicated that officers continued to hear sporadic gunfire through the first two hours that they were searching for the man.
The Olathe Police Department sent their MRAP "rescue vehicle" to assist with the search. MRAP is short for Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected.
The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department sent an armored vehicle with a small team of officers to assist, as did the Olathe and Overland Park Police Departments. Lenexa Police and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office both sent officers with drones to search from above.
Police from as far away as Olathe sent officers to assist in surrounding the search area.
About 6:30 a.m., Prairie Village officers spotted the man going door-to-door along 69th Street, near where officers initially contacted him.
Police say he was then taken into custody without incident.
"The subject was transported to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation and pending charges through the Johnson County District Attorney's Office," Capt. Roberson said in the release.

Shawnee Police say they are investigating after a Pizza Hut delivery driver was robbed by three suspects late Sunday night.

In a news release early Monday afternoon, Shawnee Police Major Dan Tennis says the aggravated robbery occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday in the 6300 block of Widmer Road.
The victim told police that three people robbed him while he was delivering pizza in the Cottonwood Park Apartments. One of the suspects was allegedly armed with a silver handgun.
"They took his money and his vehicle," Major Tennis said. "He was not injured."
"Officers located the victim's 2013 Kia Soul and the alleged suspects' 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix in the 6200 block of Rene Street," the release says.
Major Tennis says officers arrested a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, both have addresses in Kansas City, Kansas. Both of the juveniles were arrested without incident. A third suspect ran from police.
Operation 100 News was in the 6200 block of Rene after 3 a.m. as a police K-9 searched backyards for the suspect. Officers were not able to locate anyone.

"Detectives are still working on the case," Tennis says in the release. "They have a good idea who the third person is and are working this morning to locate him."
Police have not released a description or any other information regarding the third suspect.

A police pursuit of two aggravated burglary suspects that began in Kansas City, Kan., ended in Shawnee early Thursday morning.

According to Kansas City, Kan., police, the chase began in the 4100 block of North 110th Street at about 2:45 a.m. after someone called police reporting that someone was trying to break into their house. Officers responded to the scene and the suspects were seen driving away.
Officers pursued the suspect's Buick Rendezvous onto Interstate 70, where speeds reached 110mph according to radio traffic. The suspect's then led officers to southbound Interstate 635, where a Kansas City, Kan. officer was able to get spike strips down in front of the vehicle, causing one of the front tires to go flat. The chase then exited at Metropolitan Avenue and travelled west to Holliday Drive, passing Lake Quivira. The pursuit continued into Shawnee and the driver lost control at Wilder Road where the road curves to cross several sets of railroad tracks.
Shawnee police said that the vehicle crashed under the railroad bridge and caught fire.

Radio traffic from officers reported that one suspect ran from the crash scene. A second suspect, who was injured in the crash, stayed at the scene and was quickly detained by officers. The injured suspect was transported by Johnson County Med-Act to the University of Kansas Hospital with serious injuries.

Shawnee police searched the wooded area, Mill Creek Streamway Park, and the northern edge of the Deffenbaugh Landfill with K-9 units for several hours Thursday morning. Officers called off their search around 7:30 a.m. with no sign of the suspect.
Shawnee police were not involved in the pursuit, Maj. Dan Tennis said. However, according to Amber Thomas-Hickerson with the Kansas City, Kan. police, Shawnee police and Kansas City, Mo., police were investigating the burglary as well in connection to other burglary cases in their cities.
Captain Tye Grant with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department confirmed to Operation 100 News that detectives from the department's property crimes unit were working with Kansas agencies on a burglary investigation.
Just after 9:30 a.m., radio traffic indicated that a man matching the description of the second suspect was seen near the scalehouse at the main entrance to the Deffenbaugh landfill. Reports indicated that the man was spotted by landfill security, who called police describing a black male dressed in dark clothing and only wearing one shoe. Shawnee officers arrived quickly and spotted the man running towards the river. Police arrested him near the entrance to Deffenbaugh landfill, according to scanner reports.
BNSF maintenance crews responded to the crash scene to check the structural integrity of the bridge before allowing rail traffic to resume. The bridge was reopened just after 5:30 a.m.
Officers from five agencies were involved in the initial search for the suspects after the crash. Those agencies included Shawnee Police, Lenexa Police, Kansas City, Kan. Police, Kansas City, Mo. Police, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Police.

Shawnee Police are investigating after an 18-year-old man reportedly fell 25-35 feet from a bridge to the creek below early on New Year's Day.
The incident was reported around 3:30 a.m. in the 6200 block of Woodland Drive. A friend of the victim told police that the man was walking on the bridge's concrete guardrail when he slipped on ice and fell off the bridge to the ground below.
Johnson County Med-Act reported the man's injuries to be critical.

Shawnee firefighters worked for about seven minutes to secure the man and bring him back up to the roadway.
Med-Act transported the man to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Officers believe the incident may have been alcohol related.
Police remained on the scene investigating the incident until about 4:45 a.m..
In the days since the incident, Shawnee Police spokesperson Major Bill Hisle says the man has been upgraded to stable condition.

Shawnee Police and the FBI are investigating after a man held up the Intrust Bank, located at 19501 W. 65th Terrace in Shawnee. The bank is on the northwest corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Barker Road, about a mile and a half west of Interstate 435.
Police say at approximately 1:35 p.m. Monday a man armed with a sawed-off shotgun, wearing camouflage and a brown jacket, robbed the bank of an undetermined amount of cash. The man ran northbound from the bank into a wooded area.
Officers from Shawnee and Lenexa set up a perimeter in the area and searched through the woods with a K-9. Kansas City, Missouri Police brought in their helicopter to assist in searching from above.
Shawnee Police Department spokesperson, Major Bill Hisle says, "at approximately 3:00 p.m. a person of interest was located in a wooded area north of the bank and taken into custody."
County booking records show a, 21-year-old, Lee's Summit, Missouri man was arrested and is lodged at the Johnson County Central Booking Center in Olathe. The man is yet to be charged and his name has not officially been released. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
No injuries were reported during the robbery or the search that followed.
The case remains under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Shawnee Police.

Interstate 435 is back open following an early morning car chase. Overland Park Police started a low speed pursuit of a black Acura passenger car on westbound Interstate 435 around 2:45 Monday morning. Officers reported the vehicle's speed to be 17 miles per hour and approaching the Quivira Road overpass.
Speeds ranged between two and 10 miles per hour for the majority of the 25 minute pursuit. Pursuing officers reported the driver nearly struck the concrete jersey barrier at least once.
Overland Park Police were able to get spike strips out in front of the vehicle, just west of Quivira Road. The first set of spikes only hit the right side tires of the vehicle. The driver accelerated to just over 40 mile per hour, with officers right behind him.
As the pursuit crossed into Lenexa, officers were there with a second set of spike strips in the vehicle's path. The second set of spikes deflated all four of the vehicle's tires just before the Interstate 435 intersection with Interstate 35.
The driver continued westbound on I-435 to just before Lackman Road, where his vehicle came to a stop sideways across the highway and only about three miles from where the pursuit had started 25 minutes earlier.
Once stopped, the driver continued to ignore officers and could be seen moving around in the driver's seat of the stopped vehicle.
Police from Overland Park, Lenexa and Shawnee closed both directions of the I-435 between Kansas Highway 10 and Interstate 35.
About 20 minutes after the vehicle stopped, officers approached in a patrol vehicle and were able to take the driver into custody without further incident.

Johnson County Med-Act was called to check the driver for possible injuries. He refused any treatment at the scene and remained in police custody.
Police are still investigating why the man chose not to stop for officers.
All eastbound lanes were reopened before 4 a.m.. Westbound lanes reopened about 4:17 a.m.. A tow truck removed the suspect vehicle from the right shoulder just before 5 a.m..

Olathe Police are investigating after a man was found stabbed early Wednesday morning.
Police were called to an address in the 1300 block of E. Loula Street around 12:30 a.m. on reports of a stabbing. Officers arrived to find a 20-year-old man with at least two stab wounds at the address.
The victim told police that he was walking to the QuikTrip at Santa Fe and Ridgeview. A man jumped out of a car and stabbed him.
Johnson County Med-Act reported the victim's injuries to be critical. He was transported to an area trauma center for further treatment.
Police are looking for three suspects who sped away from the area in a silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo with front end damage. All three suspects were described as white males, one was armed with knife and wearing a ski mask. One of the other men was said to be armed with a baseball bat or a wrench. No other descriptions were immediately available.

Update:
Fire officials believe the fire was sparked by a gas line that feeds a fireplace inside one of the apartments. That gas line was turned on Tuesday. Gas from that line somehow escaped and ignited in a furnace in the apartment, causing an explosion and the fire that followed.
Officials also say that the man who was seriously burned and transported from the scene in critical condition has stabilized but, remains in serious condition. The police officer that was transported from the scene was treated and released.

Firefighters from four different fire departments battled an apartment fire in northern Overland Park Tuesday afternoon.
At 12:15 p.m. multiple 9-1-1 callers reported a possible explosion and then a large fire from the three story building at 5604 Floyd Street. This is at the Metcalf 56 Apartments, just south of Interstate 35 along Metcalf Road.
Overland Park Police were first to arrive and reported very heavy smoke coming from the building. Officers made their way inside to check for residents inside.
Consolidated Fire District No. 2 arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and fire from the building. Incident command quickly ordered additional fire crews with a second alarm and a third alarm at 12:44 p.m..

Johnson County Med-Act evaluated at least eight people at the scene, two of those people have been transported from the scene.
A man was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital in critical condition with second and third degree burns to his upper body, face, and feet.
An Overland Park police officer was transported to Shawnee Mission Medical Center in serious condition with smoke inhalation related symptoms.
Crews worked to keep the fire from extending to the other half of the building.
Overland Park Fire Department Media Manager Jason Rhodes says it took firefighters about two hours to bring the fire under control.

Consolidated Fire District No. 2 was assisted by crews from Overland Park Fire, Merriam Fire and Shawnee Fire. Johnson County's Medical Director was also on the scene. Various other fire departments filled-in at stations for crews that were involved on the fire call. Shawnee Fire called in off-duty personnel to fill their stations.
The Shawnee Fire Department's heavy rescue was also on the scene to refill air bottles used by firefighters while inside the building.
As of 2:20 p.m., fire investigators have arrived at the University of Kansas hospital to interview the critically injured man. That man was reportedly in the apartment where the fire started.
A damage estimate was not immediately available, the building is likely a complete loss. Fire officials say at least 10 units were damaged by fire and another six units have smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.

Around 12:30 a.m., Troopers attempted to stop a speeding vehicle, sparking a nearly 40 mile pursuit.
The pursuit started in Wyandotte County near Interstate 435 and Interstate 70 when Kansas Turnpike Authority Troopers tried to stop a Ford Taurus that was seen in excess of 90 miles per hour on the interstate. Troopers pursued the vehicle southbound on Interstate 435 into Johnson County, through Shawnee and into Lenexa.
The suspect exited at 95th Street in Lenexa, wound through a business park and then back to I-435.
Speeds accelerated to nearly 100 miles per hour while northbound on I-435 and back into Shawnee, where the vehicle exited at Midland Drive and took off westbound. Troopers lost sight of the vehicle on Midland but, Shawnee officers spotted it westbound on Shawnee Mission Parkway. The vehicle then turned northbound on Monticello and then eastbound on Johnson Drive.
Shawnee police attempted to spike the vehicle's tires as it passed Barker Road, however the attempt was unsuccessful.
The vehicle continued back to Interstate 435 where it went southbound. The chase stayed on I-435 all the way to Kansas City, Missouri. At the state line, Kansas Troopers ended their pursuit and Kansas City, Missouri officers took over. Those officers reported that the vehicle exited at Holmes and then continued north to Bannister Road, where officers lost sight of it.
At last check, this vehicle has not been located.
The chase covered about around 40 miles in approximately 35 minutes. No law enforcement officers were injured and no patrol vehicles were damaged.

An 8-year-old boy was shot late Monday night in Overland Park.
Authorities say they were called to an address in the 10000 block of Kessler Street at 11:48 p.m., Monday, on a reported drive-by shooting. The scene is just west of Antioch Road.
Police arrived to learn that the suspect had fled from the scene in a vehicle and a child had been wounded.
Johnson County Med-Act determined the child's injuries to be serious. The boy is said to have a single gunshot wound to the left shoulder. He was transported to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. As of 4:15 a.m., Police say the boy is in stable condition.
Authorities say there were several children and one adult in the home when the shots were fired. No one else was injured.
Witnesses reported hearing as many as six gunshots.
Police have not released any suspect information. Officers have information on the alleged suspect and are working to locate him.

A Time Warner Cable employee working to install a cable line in Merriam was shocked and burnt by an electric line Saturday morning.
The employee was working in the 10000 block of W 70th Terrace, around 8:30 a.m., when authorities say his arm came into contact with an electrical wire.
Merriam firefighters reported the worker was 20-25 feet up a utility pole when he was shocked.
Johnson County Med-Act transported the 44-year-old man to the University of Kansas Hospital for further treatment. His injuries were said to be serious but, not immediately life threatening.

Overland Park Police surrounded a home in the 11400 block of 142nd Terrace, in the area of 143rd Street and Quivira Road, following a disturbance call around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Officers called for the department's SWAT team and negotiators to respond around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say they were in contact with the man throughout the ordeal.
The man was said to be armed, since the situation ended peacefully, around 9:30 a.m., officers have not said whether or not any firearms were found.
Tactical Medics from Johnson County Med-Act were on the scene and an ambulance unit was staged nearby.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is also assisted with the situation's early stages.
No injuries were reported.

Shawnee Police have identified the driver as James Katajwa, 26, of Shawnee.
Major Bill Hisle says, "Katajwa was westbound on 75th Street just east of Nieman Road when his car left the roadway, hit a light pole, and flipped. Katajwa was pronounced dead at the scene."
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Shawnee Police are investigating after a man was killed in a single vehicle rollover accident Thursday afternoon.
The accident was reported just before 3:10 p.m., on the northeast corner of 75th Street and Nieman Road. Police arrived to find the vehicle on its top in front of the former, VIP Car Wash.
Firefighters worked for about 15 minutes to extricate the driver from the wreckage.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and has only been identified as an adult male.
The Lenexa Fire Department also responded and assisted the Shawnee Fire Department at the scene.
Shawnee Police Department Major Bill Hisle says the cause of the accident is under investigation by the department's Traffic Safety Unit.
Maj. Hisle also urged the public to avoid the intersection through the rush hour as the investigation continued.

Lawrence Police continue to investigate after a man, suffering from burns, contacted officers at a gas station in the 3000 block of Iowa Street. Officers responded to the man's home, in the 2500 block of Crestline Court and called the fire department after finding fuel and other dangerous chemicals. The materials are believed to contain methamphetamine, or other drugs.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews were on the scene of a hazardous materials investigation in southern Lawrence this morning.
Crews were dispatched to a duplex in the 2500 block of Crestline Court at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday. The incident began after a resident of the Crestline Court address arrived at a gas station near 31st and Iowa streets.
A medic unit was dispatched to the gas station to assess the resident, while other crews were sent to the residence.
A source familiar with the investigation tells Operation 100 News that a 40-year-old man was "exposed to an unknown chemical in his home." The man left his home to find help after he began experiencing symptoms of chemical exposure. His symptoms are said to include red eyes, face and nose.
At 3:20 a.m., the man was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Lawrence Police also requested that the on-call Animal Control Officer be dispatched to the scene to remove at least one dog from the duplex.
At least three fire crews, two medic units, two LDCFM chiefs and Lawrence Police were on the Crestline Court scene. There have been no other injuries reported and no word of any evacuations.

4800 block of Clare Road in Western Shawnee

Shawnee Police continue to investigate after a passerby found a motorcycle laying on Clare Road and the rider on the ground nearby.
Officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of Clare Road at 10:11 p.m. Friday. The 4800 block of Clare Road is west of Kansas Highway 7 and just south of a railroad crossing.
Police found the rider to be unconscious but breathing, when they arrived at the scene. The man was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, in critical condition, by Johnson County Med-Act.
Late Saturday evening Police confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Witnesses tell Operation 100 News that the motorcyclist was, "probably in his early to mid-30's."
In a statement released late Saturday evening, Sergeant Joe Mazzei identified the victim as Richard D. Shelby. Sgt Mazzei says they believe Mr. Shelby was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The Shawnee Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate the accident.

Authorities are investigating after an aircraft reported being hit with a laser light shortly after midnight Wednesday.
Master Police Officer Dan Friesen, of the Lenexa Police Department, tells Operation 100 News that they received a report of the incident from the Kansas City International airport control tower around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
KCI officials told Lenexa Police that about 20 minutes earlier, an aircraft was shined with a green laser light over their city. Approximate coordinates led officers to the intersection of 79th Street and Quivira Road.
Officer Friesen says, "officers didn't find anything in the area."
Authorities say the laser light was spotted by the pilot of a "small beechcraft aircraft." That aircraft was headed towards the Johnson County Executive Airport, near 151st Street and Pflumm Road in Olathe.
LaserPointerSafety.com says the Federal Aviation Administration has received 2,282 reports of laser/aircraft incidents from January 1, 2013 through August 1, 2013. The August 2013 number of reported incidents is 22% higher than the same time period of 2012 and on pace for there to be 4,254 total laser/aircraft incidents in the 2013 calendar year.
It is a violation of Federal Law to aim laser pointers at aircraft or their flight path. Violators can be fined and face up to five years in prison. Source: 18 USC § 39A - Aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft.

Overland Park Police are searching for the vehicle that struck a pedestrian in a parking lot this morning.
The accident was reported just before 4:45 a.m., near the intersection of 91st Street and Metcalf Avenue.
Police arrived to find the injured pedestrian down in the parking lot of the IHOP, 9099 Metcalf Avenue.
Officers reported the victim to be approximately 16 years old.
Johnson County Med-Act reported serious but, non life-threatening injuries.
Wednesday afternoon, Overland Park Police say the suspect vehicle is only described as a black sedan. That vehicle fled the parking lot and was last seen eastbound on 91st Street.

The Overland Park Police Department is investigating after a fire apparatus was involved in an accident this morning.
The Overland Park Fire Department says the accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, when one of their fire engines was struck from behind by a mini-van. It happened on the westbound Interstate 435 ramp to Quivira Road. Damage to the mini-van and fire engine is described as moderate. No injuries were reported in the accident.
At the time of the accident, the fire engine was responding to a reported accident in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 435 between Quivira and U.S. 69 Highway. A second fire apparatus was sent on the initial accident call, where one non life-threatening injury was reported.
Both accidents remain under investigation.
Operation 100 News was the only media reporting on both accidents as they unfolded. As of this report, no other media has made any public mention of either accident.

Overland Park fire crews are investigating what sparked a kitchen fire this morning.
The fire was reported just before 5:40 Tuesday morning at 10212 Melrose Drive. A resident reported a fire in the kitchen.
First fire crews arrived on the scene at 5:43 a.m. to report "light smoke showing."
Crews made their way inside the split level home and confirmed what the resident had reported, a working fire in the kitchen.
The resident of the home was outside the structure when firefighters arrived. A man in his 30's was transported to an area hospital by Johnson County Med-Act. He is said to have symptoms of smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide exposure.
While conducting routine searches of the home, firefighters located and rescued the family dog from the home. The dog was not injured and was found hiding in a bedroom.
The fire was reported under control at 5:53, and was reported to be out at 6:00.
Firefighters believe the man was cooking on the stove, when he left something unattended. Smoke alarms alerted the man to the fire. Fire officials describe his injuries as minor. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Investigators say fire damage is contained to the kitchen, with smoke damage throughout the house.
Operation 100 News broke this story to the public at 5:41 a.m. (tweet below). No reports from any other Kansas City area news media until after 6:30 a.m., more than 30 minutes after firefighters had extinguished the fire and began to leave the scene. One media outlet even reported "firefighters arrived to find flames visible," this was simply untrue according the fire department.
