Olathe man identified as person found in burned out car

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office has identified the deceased person as Jerome Stonebraker, 61, of Olathe, Kansas.

Master Deputy Tom Erickson says "the investigation determined there was no criminal activity involved in Stonebraker's death."

No other information has been released.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a body was found in a burning vehicle east of Gardner, Sunday morning.

Johnson County Fire District No. 1 firefighters were called to respond on a grass fire shortly at 5:37 a.m., near the intersection of 183rd Street and Clare Road.

Firefighters found a small area of grass on fire and a vehicle fully engulfed in flames, when they arrived at 5:46 a.m..

Fire officials confirmed to Operation 100 News that as firefighters extinguished the car fire, a body was found inside and Sheriff's Deputies were requested to respond.

Master Deputy Tom Erickson says, "there was one deceased person in the vehicle that deputies have not identified at this time. Detectives and the Johnson County Crime Lab are investigating."

Motorcyclist dies from injuries suffered in JoCo crash

Shawnee Police continue to investigate after a passerby found a motorcycle laying on Clare Road and the rider on the ground nearby.

Officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of Clare Road at 10:11 p.m. Friday. The 4800 block of Clare Road is west of Kansas Highway 7 and just south of a railroad crossing.

Police found the rider to be unconscious but breathing, when they arrived at the scene. The man was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, in critical condition, by Johnson County Med-Act.

Late Saturday evening Police confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Witnesses tell Operation 100 News that the motorcyclist was, "probably in his early to mid-30's."

In a statement released late Saturday evening, Sergeant Joe Mazzei identified the victim as Richard D. Shelby. Sgt Mazzei says they believe Mr. Shelby was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Shawnee Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate the accident.
