Two facing felony charges following weekend drive-by

Update:

Two men have been charged following the reported drive-by shooting that damaged two Olathe homes.

Eduardo Delapaz Onofre, 39, and Raul Patraca Guzman, 28, have both been charged with discharging a gun in an occupied dwelling.

Guzman has also been charged with fleeing a law enforcement officer, which is a felony.

Onofre was arrested by Olathe Police in July 2012 for carrying a concealed firearm.

Both men are being held on $100,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 31 at 9 a.m..

Olathe Police are investigating after two homes were hit by gunfire in an early morning drive-by.

An officer in the area of S. Parker and W. Sheridan Streets called out that he had just heard at least six gunshots in the area.

The officer stopped a green truck near the intersection of S. Troost and W. Wabash Streets.

When the truck stopped, one man got out and ran. The officer held two other men at gunpoint until additional officers could arrive to assist. Those two men were taken into custody without further incident.

Officers set up a large perimeter to search for the alleged shooter with a K-9 unit. They called off the search after more than an hour. Police knew the man's name and what he was last seen wearing.

Bullet casings were found in the 600 block of S. Lee Avenue in front of three different homes. Two of those homes were hit by bullets. A vehicle in the driveway of one home was found to have a flat tire, possibly from the same gunfire.

Both homes were reported to be occupied at the time of the shooting, no one inside either home was injured.

Sergeant Brian Hill says officers took the third man into custody around 5:30 a.m.. He was located inside an apartment in the 1000 block of W. Elm Street, just a short distance from the car stop.

Police currently classify the case as "Criminal Discharge of a Firearm."

8-year-old wounded in JoCo drive-by shooting

An 8-year-old boy was shot late Monday night in Overland Park.

Authorities say they were called to an address in the 10000 block of Kessler Street at 11:48 p.m., Monday, on a reported drive-by shooting. The scene is just west of Antioch Road.

Police arrived to learn that the suspect had fled from the scene in a vehicle and a child had been wounded.


Johnson County Med-Act determined the child's injuries to be serious. The boy is said to have a single gunshot wound to the left shoulder. He was transported to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. As of 4:15 a.m., Police say the boy is in stable condition.

Authorities say there were several children and one adult in the home when the shots were fired. No one else was injured.

Witnesses reported hearing as many as six gunshots.

Police have not released any suspect information. Officers have information on the alleged suspect and are working to locate him.

Olathe Police investigate shooting

Olathe Police are investigating after one person was shot this morning.

Officers responded to the Ramsgate Apartments near W. 129th Street and Mur-Len Road around 2:30 Tuesday morning. Police were reportedly searching the area for evidence of a drive-by shooting.

"Very sketchy information right now," says Olathe Police Sergeant Grant Allen. "The vehicle is either a white Suburban or Scion."

Police responded to an area hospital where a shooting victim was being treated.

Sgt. Allen says, "it is still unclear where this actually occurred but it's reportedly possibly somewhere 'in Olathe'."

The victim's injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
