Firefighters credit smoke alarms for alerting four sleeping families of a fire in their apartment building late last night.

Officials say the fire was reported around 11:30 Thursday night at 1304 E. 123rd Terrace, just east of N. Ridgeview Road.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy fire and thick black smoke showing from the back of the two story apartment building.

Crews reported the fire to be under control shortly before midnight. The fire was said to be fully extinguished by 1:52 Friday morning.

A man and a woman were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. A second woman, also suffering from smoke inhalation, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Her condition is said to be non life-threatening.

Two dogs were killed in the fire.

No other injuries were reported.

The Red Cross is assisting all 11 people who were displaced by the fire.

The fire caused substantial damage to the building. Fire inspectors are investigating what sparked the fire and a damage estimate was not immediately available. Firefighters remain at the scene this morning to watch for hot spots and assist fire investigators.

Olathe Police investigate shooting

Olathe Police are investigating after one person was shot this morning.

Officers responded to the Ramsgate Apartments near W. 129th Street and Mur-Len Road around 2:30 Tuesday morning. Police were reportedly searching the area for evidence of a drive-by shooting.

"Very sketchy information right now," says Olathe Police Sergeant Grant Allen. "The vehicle is either a white Suburban or Scion."

Police responded to an area hospital where a shooting victim was being treated.

Sgt. Allen says, "it is still unclear where this actually occurred but it's reportedly possibly somewhere 'in Olathe'."

The victim's injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

Hit & Run crash seriously injures man in Roeland Park

Roeland Park Police are investigating after a vehicle struck a pedestrian, and fled from the scene. Police say the accident occurred around 1:50 a.m., near the intersection of 48th Street and Roe Boulevard.

Johnson County Med-Act reported the victim to be a male in his "mid 30's" with serious injuries. Witnesses to the accident tell Investigators that the collision threw the man about 20-30 feet.

The suspect vehicle, only described as a yellow or orange hatchback, was last seen southbound on Roe Boulevard. Police say the vehicle will have "significant damage to the front end and likely a damaged windshield."

Two seriously injured in single vehicle accident

Shawnee Police are investigating after a single vehicle accident occurred in the 5400 block of Quivira Road around 5:50 Monday morning.

Shawnee Fire arrived on scene to report a Sport Utility Vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle sustained "moderate to heavy damage" according to the Fire Department.

Johnson County Med-Act reported one person critically injured and another was seriously injured.

Initial information from a source familiar with the accident indicates that both victims are not believed to have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the passenger was reportedly partially ejected. Both of the injured are believed to be in their early 20's.

Shawnee Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident and what role alcohol may have played in it's cause.

Stabbing reported in Shawnee

Shawnee Police are investigating after a stabbing was reported in the 6600 block of Park Street. Police and Med-Act were dispatched just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Johnson County Med-Act reported that one person had been stabbed and was in serious condition.

Police continue to investigate and no other details were immediately available.

Police investigating after parade bystander struck by wheel chock

Police in Shawnee are investigating after a female spectator at the Old Shawnee Days Parade was reportedly struck by a wheel chock belonging to a Fire Truck.

The incident was reported just after 10:20 Saturday morning, at the intersection of Johnson Drive and Cody Street, near the end of the parade route. The wheel chock reportedly "blew out" from behind the fire apparatus and struck the woman in the lower right leg.

Johnson County Med-Act says they treated, and transported a female with minor injuries to an area hospital for further treatment.

Single vehicle accident leaves one seriously injured

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating after a man was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident on Interstate 35 in Lenexa.

Troopers say the accident occurred around 6:00 a.m.. One vehicle left the highway and rolled. Investigators identified the driver as 24-year-old Jason A. Varughese, of Pahrump, Nevada.

Investigators say Varughese was northbound in the right lane of Interstate 35, traffic in front of his vehicle slowed and in attempt to avoid colliding with one of the slowing vehicles, Varughese made an avoidance maneuver to the right. His vehicle went off of the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned. Varughese was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

After crashing Varughese extricated himself from the crashed 2001 Toyota passenger car and began walking northbound along the highway, where he was located by the Kansas Highway Patrol. He was later transported by Johnson County Med-Act to an area hospital, where he was said to be in serious condition Friday morning.

Olathe Police seek public's assistance following Sunday shooting

Olathe Police are seeking the public's help after a 17-year-old was shot Sunday night, as first reported, right here, by Operation 100 News.

Police say they were called to the address in the 200 block of N Walnut Street at 10:41 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2012.

A statement released by Police on Monday morning says, officers found a 17-year-old black male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim remains hospitalized and in serious condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Tuesday, Police now say they are seeking a red, 2009 Volkswagen Beetle with Wyandotte County, Kansas license plates. The vehicle is also said to possibly have a softball sized dent with chipped paint, on the right rear fender and an unknown sticker in the rear window. Police are not saying that the vehicle is directly connected to the shooting. A similar vehicle was seen in the area, involved in suspicious activity just before the shooting occurred.

The suspect is described as a clean shaven black male, slender build with either braids or dreadlocks. He is said to be in his late teens or early twenties and was last seen wearing dark clothing and a dark baseball hat. The suspect left the area in a maroon 4 door midsized vehicle, which was driven by a white female with shoulder length blonde hair.

Monday afternoon, Police say that the victim is not believed to have known the the shooter. The two apparently were involved in a verbal altercation after a traffic related issue, when the still unknown suspect shot the victim in the stomach.

Olathe teen seriously injured after being shot

The Olathe Police Department is investigating after a teenage male was shot in the 200 block of N Walnut street in central Olathe just after 10:40 Sunday night. The shooting scene is about three blocks to the northwest of the Johnson County Courthouse which is located at Kansas Avenue and Santa Fe Street (135th Street).

Johnson County Med-Act reported that the 17-year-old had sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to an area hospital with what were described as serious injuries but, non-life threatening injuries.

Police say that the incident remains under investigation. Initial reports, unconfirmed by police, indicate that the suspect was possibly fled from the area in a vehicle, which was being driven by a female.

As of this report, an update on the victim's condition was not available.

Several injuries reported in early morning house fire

While this fire occurred outside of the normal reporting area for Operation 100 News, it still seems worthy of being reported.

An early morning fire forced six people from their home in Butler, Missouri (Bates County), approximately 60 miles south of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Officials say the fire broke out at 210 W Dakota Street shortly after midnight, Wednesday morning.

Initial reports indicated that at least two people escaped the fire through a second story window, a drop said to be "more than 10 feet" to the ground.

Officials confirm that three people have been transported by air ambulance to Kansas City area hospitals.

Two LifeFlight Eagle helicopters from the Kansas City area responded along with a MedFlight helicopter from Nevada, Missouri. All three helicopters transported victims to Kansas City area hospitals.

A source familiar with the incident reports that a "46-year-old male" victim was admitted to the burn unit at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Another male, said to be 18-years-old, suffered trauma injuries from a long fall and smoke inhalation. A child was also reported to have been transported by the third helicopter to Children's Mercy.

The State Fire Marshal has been requested to respond to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
