Police say at approximately 1:35 p.m. Monday a man armed with a sawed-off shotgun, wearing camouflage and a brown jacket, robbed the bank of an undetermined amount of cash. The man ran northbound from the bank into a wooded area.
Officers from Shawnee and Lenexa set up a perimeter in the area and searched through the woods with a K-9. Kansas City, Missouri Police brought in their helicopter to assist in searching from above.
Shawnee Police Department spokesperson, Major Bill Hisle says, "at approximately 3:00 p.m. a person of interest was located in a wooded area north of the bank and taken into custody."
County booking records show a, 21-year-old, Lee's Summit, Missouri man was arrested and is lodged at the Johnson County Central Booking Center in Olathe. The man is yet to be charged and his name has not officially been released. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
No injuries were reported during the robbery or the search that followed.
The case remains under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Shawnee Police.
