The Overland Park Fire Department says no one was injured in two separate fire calls on Saturday evening.
Firefighters from Overland Park were first called to the Greenbrier Townhomes at 8325 Antioch Road at 4:47 p.m.
The first arriving firefighters found a fire in the attic of the two-story building, which contains seven units.
Overland Park Fire Department Media Manager Jason Rhodes response was immediately upgraded to a second-alarm response.
All residents were able to evacuate the building as firefighters went to work battling the fire.
"Crews had to take a defensive posture to knock down fire that had vented from the roof," Rhodes said. "Soon after there were able to mount an offensive fire attack from the interior of the building."
Rhodes says other crews held positions on the south side of the building to keep the fire from spreading to a neighboring building.
The fire was brought under control within 90-minutes.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the building where it started, but say the entire building suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.
"The Red Cross is assisting residents who need lodging," Rhodes said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
While firefighters were still working the fire on Antioch, additional firefighters were called to 10821 West 91st Street for a reported house fire at 5:51 p.m.
Rhodes says firefighters arrived there to find smoke and fire visible from the single family home.
"Crews went to work attacking a fire in the rear of the resident and additional crews searched the home to be sure it was unoccupied," Rhodes said. "The residents were away at the time of the fire and are all safe and accounted for."
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the displaced residents will be staying with family.
