Skeletal remains located in March identified as missing JoCo man

Olathe Police say human skeletal remains that were located in rural Johnson County in March of 2013 have been identified as a missing Olathe man.

Authorities have identified the remains as Ryan A. Bradley, who was 23 when he was reported missing from an address in Olathe.

Police say Ryan A. Bradley's father reported his son missing on October 13, 2011 and told Police that his son had not been seen since October 9th. Olathe Police say they dedicated significant resources to locating Ryan, with the assistance from several local and state jurisdictions and local media. As time passed, so did new leads regarding Ryan's location, police say.

In March of 2013, Johnson County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an address in rural Johnson County after someone located what they believed to be human remains. The skeletal remains were collected by the Sheriff's Office and submitted for DNA analysis, in attempt to identify them.

Olathe Police say the cause of death remains unknown and the investigation is ongoing.

Roadside fight victim identified as Bonner Springs man

Lenexa Police have identified the man who died early Wednesday morning along Interstate 435 as Joshua N. Williams, 34, of Bonner Springs. Authorities say the van was traveling from Eudora to the Kansas City area.

Police spokesman Master Police Officer Dan Friesen tells Operation 100 News reporting partners at the Lawrence Journal-World that Williams was with three other people in the minivan, when he got into an argument - for an unknown reason - with another person in the back seat of the mini van.

The argument became physical, prompting the driver to stop in the east bound lanes on I-435 just west of Lackman Road.

Williams and others exited the vehicle south of the highway where the fight continued, and at some point during the altercation Williams collapsed. Other occupants of the vehicle called for medical assistance at 3:47 a.m.

Johnson County Med-Act transported Williams to an area hospital where he later died. Officers questioned three people with the vehicle and released them.

"No charges have been filed pending autopsy results and further review by the Johnson County district attorney's office," Firesen said.

Second of four in Ottawa County jail break captured

The Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) says around 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Drew Edward Wade, one of the three men who escaped from the Ottawa County Detention Center, was captured in North Platte, Nebraska.

A KDOC spokesperson says that the escape remains under investigation and no other details are currently being released.

An Ottawa County Official says that Wade turned himself into authorities at a North Platte, Nebraska Walmart after speaking with his father.

KDOC says all escapees should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to call 911, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-572-7463 or the Ellsworth Correctional Facility at 785-472-5501.

Iraq War Veteran from De Soto, Kansas found safe in Illinois

UPDATED: Johnson County Sheriff's Deputies say Matthew Flowers has been located in Illinois. Authorities in Collinsville, Illinois, east of St. Louis, located him hitchhiking and said he was "headed towards Florida." He was last seen in De Soto on Tuesday. Johnson County Deputies say he left voluntarily and was not taken into custody in Illinois.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating a missing Veteran.

Deputies say 28-year-old, Matthew Scott Flowers, of De Soto has been missing from his home for two days.

He is described as a white male, standing 5' 10" tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds, with a shaved head

and blue eyes. Flowers has a tattoo on his left forearm which reads "Madden" and a Chinese symbol on his right arm. He was last seen wearing brown cowboy boots, blue jeans.

Flowers is an Iraq War Veteran who suffered an injury during his deployment. Deputies say he requires medication, which he is not believed to have with him. When he is off of his medication, he may display "erratic or aggressive behavior."

Teenager missing from Merriam

The Merriam Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating a missing teenage girl.

Police say 15-year-old Keely Alder was last seen in the parking lot of an Overland Park Wal-Mart store at 7701 E Frontage Road, around 10:30 p.m., Sunday night. Security cameras show Alder walking through the parking lot towards the back of the store, where she disappears from the camera's view.

Alder is reported to be a runaway from The House of Hope, a treatment program for teenagers, based around faith. She is originally from Wisconsin and Police say she is not familiar with the Kansas City area. Officers say it is unlikely that she has any means of transportation.

Update: Olathe Police say as of this afternoon Dakota C. Burge has been located and is in good health. No other details were provided. Police thank the public for the assistance with the investigation.

Olathe Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a missing and endangered person.

Dakota C. Burge is a 18-year-old, white male who is described as 5'10" and 240 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Dakota has the letter "B" tattooed on the top of both hands.

Police say Dakota is Autistic and takes numerous medications that he does not have with him. He is from the Wichita, Kansas area and is not familiar with Olathe.

Dakota was reported missing on Saturday, April 7, 2012. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black "Fat Albert" t-shirt, and black Nike shoes.

Tractor trailer involved in Gardner accident located

The Kansas Highway Patrol says that the truck and it's co-drivers, involved in a serious accident last week between Gardner and Olathe on Interstate 35, have been located.

Troopers say the accident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, a passenger car rear-ended a tractor trailer while northbound on I-35, near 167th Street. The car left the interstate and came to rest against a KDOT fence, seriously injuring the pregnant female driver. The truck was not at the scene when Troopers arrived and witnesses were unable to provide a detailed description of the truck. Earlier story regarding the accident.

Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers issued a news release asking for local media to assist in spreading the word that KHP would like any information regarding the tractor trailer which was involved in the accident. Tips received from the public following that news release placed the truck traveling north through Kansas into Missouri, and later placed the truck near the Missouri-Iowa state line. A second news release was made available on Thursday, explaining the path the truck followed and that the trailer possibly still had the car hood impaled in the rear protection system. A call was then received from the Des Monies area from someone who noticed the truck.

"The trucking company and drivers have been fully cooperative," said Lieutenant Tom Catania, field supervisor in Troop A for the Kansas Highway Patrol. "We don't expect any charges to be filed in this case."

Lieutenant Catania says "the trailer was fully loaded and weighed approximately 80,000 pounds at the time of the accident. It is not uncommon for occupants of vehicles of this size and weight to be unaware of a crash, if they are struck by a passenger car. Thank you so much to the media who put out the information on the vehicle we were looking for, and to all of the citizens who called us and reported what they observed. We really appreciate their assistance, and without them, we probably would not have been able to identify the truck or the driver."

The female driver has since been identified as 33-year-old Nikki McClure. She remains hospitalized and in serious condition. McClure did give birth to a baby girl Wednesday morning after being transported to an area hospital. The baby is said to be doing just fine.

Overland Park woman found safe after 3rd disappearance

Update: Molly Jones' family says that Molly returned to the family's residence, near 83rd and Farley Streets, around 5:25 p.m. Saturday evening. Overland Park Police confirm that Molly Jones did return home. No other information was immediately available.

Overland Park Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating 27-year-old, Molly Jones. She was last seen at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of her home near 83rd Street and Farley Road in Overland Park.


Police say Molly suffers from a medical condition that can cause her to become catatonic and unaware of her surroundings. Due to the medical condition, Police consider her as "Missing/Endangered." A press release says that Molly is believed to be wearing a pink sport shirt and blue jeans. Her hair was also in a pony tail when she was last seen. Police say her hair is shoulder length when it is down. She is reported to have left on foot and without a purse or phone.


Molly Jones is a white female, standing 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing approximately 155 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes.

Update: As of 5:50 a.m., Monday, Police confirm to Operation 100 News that Molly Jones has been located near a house just a few blocks west of the hospital. Authorities say she appears to be in good health and has been returned to the Hospital for continued treatment.

University of Kansas Medical Center Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a woman who doctors consider "medically at risk." Police say that 27-year-old Molly Jones was last seen around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Authorities say Jones' "health may be at risk."

During an earlier disappearance from her Overland Park home, OP Police said that Jones suffers from a medical condition which can cause her to become "catatonic and unaware of her surroundings." 

Molly's husband, Leighton Jones, says that "Molly did not walk away from the hospital, she ran. She was on lock down and escaped. This is not a simple case of someone becoming confused and walking away. She is unaware of her surroundings and unable to take care of herself."

A source at the University of Kansas Medical Center was not willing to comment on Leighton Jones' claims. A second hospital source also refused to confirm or deny the same information.

Jones is described as a white female, standing 5'5" tall, approximately 150 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a white knit shirt, gray athletic style pants and no shoes.

Missing Olathe man and grandson found in Platte County, Missouri

UPDATE: Platte County Deputies located the missing man and his grandson off of 9 Highway and Coffey Road in Platte County, just east of Parkville, Missouri. A Deputy on patrols stopped the vehicle, which matched the description that the two were last seen in. An ambulance was called to the scene as a precaution according to a Sheriff's Office spokesperson. Olathe Police also confirm that the two are safe and have been transported to an area hospital to be checked out.

Olathe Police say, 66-year-old, Franklin Benskin and his grandson, 4-year-old, Marcus Mabwai were reported missing Sunday afternoon. The two were last seen in the 12200 block of Strang Line Road around 1 p.m.. Police say they were called just before 7:30 p.m., when the two had not returned home.

Officers say Benskin has an unspecified medical problem which can leave him disoriented while driving. Benskin drives a dark blue 2009 Hyundai Accent four door with an unknown Kansas license plate.

Police: Search for Aisha Khan cost nearly $36,000

Overland Park Police say that their efforts in searching for Aisha Khan cost nearly $36,000. Police now say that the search for Aisha racked up nearly $36,000 worth of overtime for the 63 officers who were involved in the investigation. Officers worked more than 788 hours according to a spokesperson.

The $10,000 reward that was offered during the search by Khan's family was donated, split between Overland Park Police and unspecified local charities.

Khan was reported missing from the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park on Friday, December 16th. Police and the FBI handled the case as a possible abduction. Police confirmed that they had located Khan on Wednesday, December 21st and said that Khan was never in any immediate danger and that no criminal act had occurred. Missing child and his father FOUND SAFE

UPDATE: An Olathe Police news release says that both Kalvin Willis and his father Aaron Willis have been located and are in good health.

Olathe Police go on to thank the agencies that assisted in the investigation to this point, The Johnson County Sheriff's Department of Communications, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Platte County, Missouri Sheriff's Department, and the Platte City, Missouri Police Department.

Olathe Police and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are on the lookout for 6-year-old, Kalvin Jacob Willis and his father, 31-year-old, Aaron Jacob Willis. Police say that Aaron had a "violent incident" with his girlfriend, which included comments of possibly harming himself. The altercation ended when Aaron left the Olathe residence, in the 1800 block of E. Sheridan Bridge Lane. Police say that 6-year-old Kalvin was forced to leave with his father.

The two have not been seen since the incident occurred around 4 p.m., Thursday, December 29th. Police are not willing to comment on why 10 hours were allowed to pass before the public was alerted, around 2 a.m. Friday.

Officers say Aaron is likely driving a red 1997 Honda Civic 4 door with Kansas license plate, possibly 722 BVS.

Kalvin Jacob Willis is a white male, 4 feet 10 inches tall, weighs approximately 85lbs, with blue eyes and brown hair.

Aaron Jacob Willis is a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs approximately 140lbs, with brown eyes and brown hair. He is also said to have a "Celtic symbol" tattooed on his left hand.

JoCo Traffic Alert - I-35 & I-435 interchange

The Kansas Department of Transportation is warning motorists of an upcoming ramp closure that will affect the ramp from southbound Interstate 35 to eastbound Interstate 435 in Lenexa.

Diamond grinding work will force KDOT to close the ramp on Thursday, December 29th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m..

Advance message boards will alert drivers to the ramp closure and no marked detour will be provided. Drivers should expect delays and use alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.

All project work is scheduled to be completed on Thursday, December 29th, weather permitting.

Missouri man charged in Overland Park Bank Robbery

Overland Park Police say 28-year-old, Jason Perkins has been charged with one count of armed robbery.

Federal Prosecutors allege that on November 8th, Perkins was armed with a 9mm handgun and robbed the First National Bank in Overland Park, located at 9700 Metcalf Avenue.

A tip, two days later, led Police to Perkins' Raytown, Missouri apartment. Inside the apartment Police say they recovered a 9mm handgun and money that was stained from a dye pack.

Prosecutors say that Perkins could face as much as 25 years in Federal Prison and a $250,000 fine.

Serious early morning accident closes I-35

The Kansas Highway Patrol and Lenexa Police Department investigated a two vehicle injury accident that forced the closure of Interstate 35 at 95th Street in Lenexa for about two hours. The accident is reported to have occurred at 12:17 a.m. near highway mile marker 223.6 southbound

The Kansas Highway Patrol's preliminary accident report states that both vehicles were southbound on Interstate 35 near 95th Street. One of the vehicles was traveling at a "high rate of speed" when it rear ended a second car. The striking vehicle sustained "heavy damage" while the other sustained "moderate damage."

Three people were involved in the accident. The driver of the striking vehicle was the only occupant of that vehicle and was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. That person has been identified as a 33-year-old, Olathe woman. Reports indicate that this woman was intoxicated and was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident. The Highway Patrol continues to investigate her level of intoxication and says that charges are possible.

The two female occupants of the second vehicle were an 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger. Both sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the accident scene.

While investigating this accident, Lenexa Police say they were blocking traffic from entering southbound Interstate 35 from 95th Street, when a vehicle swerved around the parked Police vehicle and entered the accident scene. That vehicle was stopped by the Highway Patrol and the driver, a 24-year-old female from Colorado Springs, Colorado, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. She was booked into the Johnson County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

The Highway Patrol reopened southbound lanes of I-35 at 2:20 a.m.

Two KCMO men face charges after JoCo Bank Robbery

The Johnson County District Attorney's Office has filed Robbery charges against the two men arrested after a Friday afternoon Bank Robbery in Prairie Village. Two Kansas City, Missouri men now face charges related to the robbery. 40-year-old, Dennis Bowen and 19-year-old Joshua Parker are both being held in the Johnson County Jail on $250,000 bond

Police say one of the men was dressed as a woman when he entered the US Bank, located at 6940 Mission Road, demanded money and then fled in a vehicle, driven by another man. Police spotted a vehicle matching the description given by a witness. The vehicle was stopped by Police and a male passenger ran from the vehicle. Both men were taken into custody

Both men have been arraigned on the charges and are scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.

The FBI continues to investigate whether or not these men are involved in the other Kansas City Metropolitan area bank robberies which involved a cross-dressing male.

The Olathe Police Department continues searching and asking for public assistance in locating a missing adult. Police say Ryan A. Bradley has been missing since October 9th, 2011. Police say they have very little information.

Ryan is a white male, 23-years-old, 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a scar on his left forearm and the outside of his left ankle. Ryan's left arm is "bowed" and he walks with a slight limp. Police say he typically wears a t-shirt, jeans and tennis shoes. He was last seen walking to a friend's house from his residence in the 800 block of East Layton in Olathe.

Fatal motorcycle accident

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident this morning. The accident occurred at 12:33 this morning according to the Highway Patrol. One motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the accident which occurred on southbound Interstate 635 on the ramp to eastbound K-5 Highway in Kansas City, Kansas.

A short time before this accident occurred, a Platte County, Missouri Sheriff's Deputy reported a motorcycle that failed to yield to him. That motorcycle was last seen traveling at a high rate of speed southbound. The description of that motorcycle and the one involved in the Kansas City, Kansas crash are similar however, the Kansas Highway Patrol is still investigating if this is the same motorcycle.

Riverside, Missouri Police reported watching a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Interstate 635 approaching the river, crossing into Kansas. Police were not in pursuit and did not attempt to stop the motorcycle as it sped by.

It was just minutes after that Riverside officer reported that speeding motorcycle that Kansas City, Kansas Fire and EMS crews along with the Kansas Highway Patrol were called to respond on a single motorcycle accident.

According to a preliminary report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, the motorcycle was southbound on I-635, attempted to exit to K-5 eastbound. The motorcycle "failed to negotiate the curve" and struck a bridge rail. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced deceased at the scene.

As of 4:15 a.m. KHP says the driver of the motorcycle was 18-year-old, Rainey Evans of Liberty, Missouri. Investigators say Evans was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Deputy involved shooting leaves 1 dead

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal, officer involved shooting that occurred around 7:30 p.m. at 238 North Keeler Street in Olathe.

Several witnesses claim to have watched the events that led up to the shooting. At this time, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office will only say that a Deputy did shoot a person to death. No Deputies were injured.

A News Release from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office states that a Deputy observed a vehicle facing the wrong way on Buchanan Street. The Deputy stopped to investigate and one person fled on foot. A second deputy encountered this male subject a short time later in the 200 block of Keeler. During this encounter the deputy fired his weapon and the suspect was struck. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Both deputies involved in this incident were not injured.

Early Friday morning, Investigators have identified 46-year-old Matthew White as the man who was shot to death by a Deputy.

According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, White served time incarcerated for Aggravated Battery causing great bodily harm and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. He was paroled on July 15, 2011 and remained under supervision by Johnson County. He was categorized as a "High" Supervision Level
