Kansas City area home improvement company owner arrested after "assist the officer" call in JoCo

Johnson County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man after responding on a reported "pending disturbance" late Friday evening.

Sheriff's Office booking logs show, 42-year-old, John M. Bartrom was arrested at 11:03 p.m.

Bartrom is the owner of Jericho Home Improvements according to the company website and lists himself as the chief executive officer and founder of the company on LinkedIn.

Johnson County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer, Deputy Claire Canaan confirms deputies were initially called to the home at 18720 Mission Road, in Stilwell, shortly before 10 p.m.

Bartrom and his wife are listed as owners of the home on Mission Road according to Johnson County property records.

Deputies were initially called to the home at 18720 Mission Road in Stilwell, by a family member who did not want an intoxicated man to leave the house in a vehicle, according to recorded radio traffic.

Recorded radio traffic indicates the man was able to leave in a 2017 Nissan Titan, registered to the business, before deputies could arrive at the address.

The truck reportedly returned to the home about 10:40 p.m. and the male driving went inside the house.

At 10:54, deputies requested additional units respond, saying that they have contact with the man inside the house, but he's "argumentative."

"While on scene at the house, the subject became uncooperative and began fighting with deputies resulting in an 'assist the officer' to go out," Deputy Canaan said in an emailed response to questions.

An 'assist the officer' is a call for emergency assistance from any nearby law enforcement.

The 'assist the officer' was canceled about two minutes later, with deputies reporting the suspect is detained.

Officers from the Overland Park Police Department and Johnson County Parks Police also assisted with the call. Several other agencies had officers responding, who were disregarded when Bartrom was taken into custody.

Radio traffic from one deputy, who requested an ambulance for Bartrom, stated there were "four taser deployments," and a "possible head injury."

Deputy Canaan confirms no deputies or officers were injured during the call.

On Saturday, John M. Bartrom was charged with; battery of a law enforcement officer with contact, obstruction of the legal process, and DUI. All charges are listed as misdemeanors.

Bartrom was booked into the Johnson County Adult Detention Center at 5:08 Saturday morning. He posted $7,500, through a bonding company, and was released from custody at 5:27 Saturday evening.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20 in Johnson County District Court.

Operation 100 News has reached out to Jericho Home Improvements for comment. These messages have not been returned.

Roadside fight victim identified as Bonner Springs man

Lenexa Police have identified the man who died early Wednesday morning along Interstate 435 as Joshua N. Williams, 34, of Bonner Springs. Authorities say the van was traveling from Eudora to the Kansas City area.

Police spokesman Master Police Officer Dan Friesen tells Operation 100 News reporting partners at the Lawrence Journal-World that Williams was with three other people in the minivan, when he got into an argument - for an unknown reason - with another person in the back seat of the mini van.

The argument became physical, prompting the driver to stop in the east bound lanes on I-435 just west of Lackman Road.

Williams and others exited the vehicle south of the highway where the fight continued, and at some point during the altercation Williams collapsed. Other occupants of the vehicle called for medical assistance at 3:47 a.m.

Johnson County Med-Act transported Williams to an area hospital where he later died. Officers questioned three people with the vehicle and released them.

"No charges have been filed pending autopsy results and further review by the Johnson County district attorney's office," Firesen said.

Death investigation underway following roadside disturbance

Victim identified as 34-year-old, Bonner Springs man.

Lenexa Police are investigating after they responded on a subject found unconscious in a ditch along Interstate 435. The call was dispatched shortly before 3:50 a.m., on eastbound Interstate 435 west of Lackman Road.

One person is reported to have stopped breathing as a result of the battery. That person, only described as a "male in his 30's," was transported to a nearby hospital by Johnson County Med-Act, who reported "CPR in progress."

As of 4:17 a.m., a source familiar with the investigation has confirmed to Operation 100 News that Police are speaking with three subjects regarding the incident.

As of 6:40 a.m., Lenexa Police confirm this incident as a "Death Investigation".

Authorities say four men were inside a van when an argument began. The driver pulled the vehicle to the shoulder and the argument became physical. As the men fought, one of them collapsed and the others called 911 for help. That person was transported to an area hospital by Johnson County Med-Act and was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident and no other details are being released at this time.

Fight at Lenexa Pub leaves one injured

Lenexa Police are investigating after a fight broke out around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Saint Pub and Patio at 9720 Quivira Road.


Police say that several subjects were involved in the disturbance, one man was seriously injured. The victim is reported to be a male in his late 20's. He was transported by Johnson County Med-Act to an area hospital with head injuries.


No one is currently in custody and Police continue to investigate
