Second of four in Ottawa County jail break captured

UPDATE: All four escaped inmates back in custody.

The Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) says around 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Drew Edward Wade, one of the three men who escaped from the Ottawa County Detention Center, was captured in North Platte, Nebraska.

A KDOC spokesperson says that the escape remains under investigation and no other details are currently being released.

An Ottawa County Official says that Wade turned himself into authorities at a North Platte, Nebraska Walmart after speaking with his father.

KDOC says all escapees should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to call 911, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-572-7463 or the Ellsworth Correctional Facility at 785-472-5501.

Sex offender escapes from Lansing

The Kansas Department of Corrections says around 3 a.m., Wednesday, April 18th, Gary Leslie Furthmyer escaped from the minimum security facility in Lansing, Leavenworth County, Kansas. He was on a minimum security job assignment at the facility's steam plant

Furthmyer was serving a sentence of up to 25 years for Indecent Liberties with a child. He was sentenced in 1986, according to KDOC records. His earliest possible release date was October 2014. KDOC records also show Furthmyer has previously escaped, from a Louisiana prison in 1988, he was apprehended five years later in Texas.

He is described as a fair skinned white male, 5'9" tall, 185lbs, with blue eyes and brown hair.

KDOC says that all escapees should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Gary Leslie Furthmyer is urged to call 911 or the Lansing Correctional Facility at 913-727-3235.

Two escaped inmates captured in Kansas City

Officials with the Lansing Correctional Facility confirm that, 22-year-old, Chad Duane Amack and 28-year-old Matthew Glen Allender have been taken into custody.

Kansas City, Kansas Police say a tip led Officers to the area of 7th Street Trafficway and Kindleberger Road around 10 p.m.. Officers later located the men, just after 10:30 p.m., about two and a half miles away, near N 5th Street and Armstrong Avenue. Both men surrendered to Law Enforcement without incident, according to Kansas City, Kansas Police.

The two men were reported missing from the Lansing Correctional Facility around 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 15th. (Link)

Note: From the Lansing Correctional Facility (301 E Kansas Street, Lansing, Kansas) to N 5th Street and Armstrong Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas is approximately 17 miles.

Two men escape Lansing Correctional Facility

That Kansas Department of Corrections and area Law Enforcement are on the look out for two men who escaped from the Lansing Correctional Facility on  Tuesday evening. The men were confirmed missing at 6 p.m. from the facility's East Unit, which is minimum-security.

Chad Duane Amack

Officials say 22-year-old, Chad Duane Amack, was serving a 23-month sentence for convictions, out of Shawnee County, related to Theft and Aggravated Burglary charges. Amack is described as a white male, 5-feet 9-inches tall, weighing approximately 175 pounds, green eyes and brown hair. He was scheduled to possibly be released as early as March 2012.

Matthew Glen Allender

The second escapee is 28-year-old, Matthew Glen Allender. Allender was also serving a 23-month sentence for  convictions, out of Shawnee County, related to two charges of Theft. He is described as a white male, 5-feet 8-inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds, brown eyes and brown hair. His earliest possible release date was May 2012.

Officials say that the men should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of either man should call 911 or the Lansing Correctional Facility at 913-727-3235.

This is the second escape in under two months from Lansing. Ronnie Dale Peters, 33, escaped from the facility on Sept. 14th (Link). Law Enforcement launched a multi-agency manhunt on Sept. 15th (Link). He was captured Sept. 16th in Gardner (Link).

Escaped Lansing prisoner captured

Ronny Dale Peters, 33, escaped from the minimum security compound at Lansing, around 3 p.m. Wednesday, September, 14th. Peters was reportedly sighted by a resident of the Conestoga Estates Mobile Home Park at 1199 E Santa Fe Street in Gardner around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night. Gardner Police arrived to investigate and also spotted a man matching Peters' description. As officers began to approach, the man ran.

Gardner Police launched a large manhunt in the area of the mobile home park. Officers from at least six agencies assisted in the search along with four K-9 teams and a Kansas Highway Patrol Helicopter. The search was concluded after nearly four hours and Ronny Dale Peters still on the loose.

Peters was apprehended at the same mobile home park in Gardner around 11 a.m. Friday morning by the United States Marshall Service. Peters' former girlfriend was also arrested for "Aiding a Fugitive." Heather Ziegler is being held at the Wyandotte County jail. Peters and Ziegler were both arrested inside of a vacant mobile home in the park. They were arrested without incident.

Johnson County Law Enforcement from multiple agencies have concluded an extensive search for the whereabouts of escaped prisoner Ronny Dale Peters. Peters remains at large this morning. The search began around 10:45 p.m. Thursday night and concluded shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday morning.


Police from Gardner, Spring Hill, Shawnee and Lenexa were all involved in the search along with Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers and Johnson County Sheriff Deputies. Four K-9 Teams were involved including one from Shawnee and three from Lenexa. The Kansas Highway Patrol also brought in their helicopter to search from above.


Peters was reportedly sighted in the area of the Conestoga Estates Mobile Home Park at 1199 E Santa Fe Street in Gardner around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night. A resident reported seeing a man matching Peters' description.


Gardner Police arrived shortly after that reported sighting and also spotted a man matching the description. As officer began to approach and asked to speak with the man, he ran.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt, and either black boots or tennis shoes. Peters has been known to use the aliases of "Petie" and "Shorty". Prison officials say he, as all escaped prisoners, should be considered dangerous and he may be armed.

Peters was sentenced in Johnson County Court in February 2011 and was serving a 32-month sentence for charges including aggravated battery, theft, burglary, domestic battery and drug related offenses. Prior to the escape, his projected release date was February 1, 2013.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ronny Peters is asked to notify local law enforcement or the Lansing Correctional Facility immediately at (913) 727-3235.
