Initial reports were from the resident at the address, who told dispatchers that there was "smoke filling the house" and that the "smoke detectors were sounding."
The first fire department unit arrived on scene at 6:49 a.m., reported "smoke showing from a single story residence." Upon further inspection, crews located a fire in the basement. The fire was quickly knocked down and determined to be "under control" at 7:00 a.m., and later reported to be "out" at 7:12 a.m..
The Overland Park Fire Department was assisted by fire crews from the Merriam Fire Department as well as Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No. 2.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
