One person is critically injured after a vehicle crashed into the rear of a tractor trailer that was stopped at a stoplight in Gardner. The accident occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m. Thursday at US 56 Highway at the intersection with N Cedar Niles Road.
Fire crews reported that the vehicle was under the tractor trailer and that the vehicle sustained heavy damage. A Police Officer on the scene reports that the vehicle is "under the trailer all the way to the backseat." Officers on the scene have requested a "Truck Inspector" to respond to the scene.
Crews had to extricate the driver, who is said to have critical head and neck injuries. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. Unconfirmed reports from the scene indicate that the driver is a male and was conscious when EMS arrived. The tractor trailers driver was not injured.
Police are investigating and no information regarding the driver's age/sex has been released or confirmed.
