Three adults escaped after discovering that their Overland Park home was on fire Saturday evening.
Firefighters were dispatched to 9406 West 82nd Terrace just before 5 p.m. on reports of a fire in the basement of the house.
Overland Park Fire Department Media Manager Jason Rhodes says the first firefighters on scene reported smoke showing from a split level, single family home.
"Firefighters quickly knocked down fire in the basement through a basement window," Rhodes said. "Additional crews began a search of the structure and firefighters then entered the basement to extinguish the fire."
It took about an hour for the flames to be extinguished.
Rhodes says fire damage is contained to the basement, but the entire home has significant smoke damage.
The three adults displaced will be staying with family.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
