Lenexa Police have provided some updated information regarding this incident.
Police say shortly after 2 a.m., they were called to a bar near 97th Street and Quivira Road on reports of a pedestrian struck by a car. On arrival officers learned that the vehicle involved had fled the scene towards Oak Park Mall, just across Quivira Road from the bar.
Oak Park Mall security located the suspect vehicle within minutes of an "Attempt to Locate" being issued. Mall security attempted to make contact with the suspect driver, who ran away on foot. Police from Lenexa and Overland Park worked together in the area to locate and apprehend the suspect.
Police say the suspect, a 35-year-old man from Topeka, was trying to report his car stolen while hiding in a dumpster. He was located and arrested by Overland Park Police, who then transferred custody to Lenexa Police.

The man was less than forthcoming about his identity and provided officers with a false name in attempt to avoid an additional charge for an outstanding warrant. He also has three prior DUI convictions according to Police.
Officers transported their suspect to Johnson County's Central Booking in Olathe, where he was booked on charges of felony DUI, reckless aggravated battery, obstructing the legal process, and other charges for leaving the scene of an injury wreck.
Lenexa Police say the victims injuries were non-life threatening and both are expected to fully recover.

Lenexa Police are investigating after two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle near 97th Street and Quivira Road around 2 a.m. Saturday.A caller reported one subject "ran over" by a vehicle near Saint's Pub & Patio, 9720 Quivira Road, just before 2:10 a.m.. The caller reported that the man was struck by a red Ford Fusion which fled from the area.
Police arrived in the area to report that the man who was struck was standing and cooperating with the investigation. Johnson County Med-Act reported the man's injuries to be minor.
Officers from Lenexa and Overland Park began checking the area for the suspect vehicle when dispatchers received information from Oak Park Mall security that a man had just ran from a vehicle in their parking lot. The description that Mall security provided appeared to match the description of the driver Lenexa Police were searching for.
As the search continued, Police back at the accident scene were informed that a second person was also struck by the same vehicle. At least one of the victims was said to have been walking on a sidewalk when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the person. Injuries to both victims were said to be minor, both refused to be transported to an area hospital by ambulance.
Overland Park Police located the suspected driver near the bank at 95th Street and Nieman Road just before 2:30 a.m.. He was arrested and turned over to Lenexa Police after being identified as the driver by at least one of the victims.
Police continue to investigate the incident and if alcohol may have contributed to the accident. As of this report no formal charges have been filed.
