The fire was initially dispatched shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday. First fire crews found heavy fire visible from the single story home at 12914 S. Pflumm Road. The incident was upgraded to a second alarm at 11:42 p.m..
Crews were forced to battle the fire from the exterior at one point. They were able to reenter the structure a short time later.
The fire was declared to be under control at 12:40 a.m..
A man, woman, and one dog escaped the house safely. Officials say a second dog and one cat were found deceased after the fire was extinguished.
One person was said to have sustained minor injuries, that person was treated at the scene and refused any further medical treatment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
Firefighters from Overland Park and Lenexa also responded on the incident.
Pflumm Road was closed to all traffic as crews battled the fire. All lanes have since reopened.
