Merriam Shooting

lanes of Interstate 35 searching for evidence of a shooting
An Overland Park man was reportedly shot while driving his Ford Expedition northbound on Interstate 35 around 1 a.m. Saturday morning. Police say the shooting occurred somewhere between 67th Street and Shawnee Mission Parkway on I-35. After being shot, the man drove himself to Shawnee Mission Medical Center with a single gunshot wound to the leg. Hospital Security notified Police of the incident around 3 a.m.. Officers located the man's Ford Expedition in the hospital's parking lot and towed it to a secure area to process it for evidence.

The man's injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Johnson County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigators arrived on scene and searched Interstate 35 for possible evidence.

Northbound Interstate 35 traffic forced to exit at 67th Street
Police from Overland Park, Lenexa and Shawnee assisted Merriam Police with shutting down the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 between 67th Street and Shawnee Mission Parkway. All traffic was forced to exit at 67th Street. Lanes were reopened just before 6 a.m..

Police have not released any information regarding suspect information or possible motive for the shooting.
