Two seriously injured in single vehicle accident

Shawnee Police are investigating after a single vehicle accident occurred in the 5400 block of Quivira Road around 5:50 Monday morning.

Shawnee Fire arrived on scene to report a Sport Utility Vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle sustained "moderate to heavy damage" according to the Fire Department.

Johnson County Med-Act reported one person critically injured and another was seriously injured.

Initial information from a source familiar with the accident indicates that both victims are not believed to have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the passenger was reportedly partially ejected. Both of the injured are believed to be in their early 20's.

Shawnee Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident and what role alcohol may have played in it's cause.
