Driver identified in early morning fatal accident

Shawnee Police are investigating after a single vehicle accident killed a driver in western Shawnee early Tuesday morning.

The call was dispatched at 2:21 a.m., with a report of an accident involving a pickup truck which had left the roadway and struck a tree near Mize Elementary School at 7301 Mize Road. Initial reports indicated the driver was partially ejected from the truck and unresponsive.

Johnson County Med-Act arrived on scene and reported a pickup truck versus a tree. Shawnee Fire reported that the truck had sustained heavy damage in the crash. The driver was confirmed to be deceased a short time later.

The Shawnee Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is on scene handling the investigation. No other injuries were reported.

Tuesday afternoon Police have identified the victim as, 21-year-old, Damian Cody Hall of Shawnee. Hall was the only occupant of the 2006 Ford F-150 which left the roadway struck a light pole and then a tree. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say Hall was driving home from work when the accident occurred.

Officers continue to investigate the accident.
