Olathe Police investigating fatal assault

Olathe Police responded to reports of an assault near Mill Creek Park, located near N Woodland Street and E Poplar Street at 5:23 a.m.

Two men were transported to Olathe Medical Center where one was pronounced dead. A second man was treated, questioned and later released from custody.

Police Sergeant Grant Allen tells Operation 100 News, 53-year-old, Olathe resident. Ronald Venable died as a result of his injuries sustained in the incident.

Initial reports indicate that the suspect may have choked the now deceased man. Police are not willing to confirm this as it is an ongoing investigation.

Police say it does not appear that the men knew each other. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Olathe Police Department (913) 782-0720 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS

Operation 100 News reported this incident on Twitter as Police and Med-Act were arriving on scene, with confirmed word from Police reported at 5:43 a.m. No other mention in the local media until after 6 a.m..
