Olathe Police are investigating an accident involving a motorcycle on Interstate 35 this morning.

Police say they were called to the scene at 11:42 Friday for an accident in the southbound lanes of the interstate, just south of Santa Fe Street.

Officers located an unresponsive 23-year-old male who was the motorcycle rider.

A news release states that initial reports indicate that the motorcycle was southbound on Interstate 35 when it struck the rear of another southbound vehicle.

The rider was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle stopped at the scene and was not injured in the accident.

Olathe Police, with the assistance of the Kansas Highway Patrol and KDOT shut down the southbound lanes for nearly three hours as they investigated the accident.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Olathe Police Department Traffic Unit at 913-971-7500 or 913-971-6950 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
