Overland Park Fire crews are investigating after a small fire was extinguished inside an apartment.
Firefighters were called to 12330 Craig Street in the Pointe Royal Apartments around 11:30 Friday night.
Arriving fire crews reported flames visible inside one ground level apartment. Firefighters forced entry and extinguished a small fire in the back living room area.
Overland Park Fire Department media manager Jason Rhodes says no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no working smoke alarms in the apartment.
The fire was contained to one apartment, which sustained moderate fire damage and significant smoke damage, according to Rhodes.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Overland Park Fire reminds the public that a working smoke alarm is the cheapest form of life insurance you can buy. More information on fire safety can be found on the Overland Park Fire Department's website.
