Five people injured in JoCo crash

Johnson County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating after a two vehicle accident injured five people Friday morning near Gardner.

The accident was reported around 6:10 a.m. at the intersection of 159th Street and Moonlight Road, in Gardner Township. Motorists are urged to avoid the area while the accident is investigated.

Johnson County Fire District No. 1 crews arrived on the scene to report two vehicles involved in the crash with moderate to heavy damage. Two people were said to be pinned in the backseat of one vehicle.

A 38-year-old male was critically injured when the van he was driving struck another vehicle occupied by four people. The occupants of the second vehicle include a three females and one male. Two of the females are 16-years-old, one is 17 and the male is 20-years-old. One of the females is in serious condition, the other three only had minor injuries.

Johnson County Med-Act had three ambulances at the scene to transport all of the injured people to an area hospital.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says the southbound lanes of Moonlight Road "will remain closed for some time this morning," due to this accident.
