Police in Overland Park are investigating after the Santa Fe Tow Service lot was burglarized early Monday morning. The lot is located at 8717 Lenexa Drive, just southeast of the Interstate 35 and W. 87th Street interchange.

Overland Park Police Sergeant Gary Mason tells Operation 100 News that the call was received about 4:30 a.m. Monday.

The owner of the business arrived and informed officers that he had spoken to a witness who had followed a possible suspect vehicle from the scene. Officers learned that the possible suspect vehicle had been followed to a self-storage facility that is just under two miles from the tow lot.

Police entered the self-storage property, located near W. 79th Street and E. Frontage Road, where they located and detained the alleged suspect for questioning.

Sgt. Gary Mason says that the suspect allegedly cut the lock on the gate of the tow lot and took several wheels and tires.

As of Monday afternoon, booking records show that a Missouri man has been arrested and booked. He has not been formally charged.

Police in Shawnee are investigating after several storage lockers were found burglarized this morning.

Around 3 a.m., an officer was checking businesses in the 22100 block of W. 83rd Street when he discovered a partially opened storage locker.

Shawnee Police Lieutenant Doug Orbin says, "further investigation revealed that several lockers had been entered with forced entry."

Radio traffic at the time indicated possibly as many as 30 lockers had been burglarized. Lieutenant Orbin says, "the investigation is ongoing and the information on the total number of lockers entered, and items missing, is still being gathered."

Anyone with information on these burglaries is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Jesse Perez at 913-742-6878 or the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

While other area media outlets continue to report on the same crime night after night in Kansas City, Operation 100 News is reporting news in Douglas and Johnson counties in real time.

This story was first reported in our Twitter feed shortly after police discovered the crime and determined that there were not suspects remaining at the scene.
