Shawnee Police are investigating another armed robbery this morning.
A statement from Shawnee Police says that an officer patrolling the area around 1:50 Tuesday morning when he noticed that he could not see the clerk of the TempStop convenience store at 13515 W. 63rd Street. As the officer parked his patrol car, he was approached by the clerk who had his arms restrained in zip ties behind his back and reported that the store had been robbed.
This morning's incident is the third robbery since February. The store has only been in business for about six months. The first robbery occurred on February 12, 2013, the second occurred around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9th. Operation 100 News is the only media outlet that has reported all three robberies.
In a statement released around 9 a.m., Police say that the suspect is a black male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slender build. He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black gloves, sunglasses, and had a black bandanna covering his face.
Police say the suspect approached the clerk while displaying a silver or dark gray revolver and demanded cash from the register. Before leaving, the suspect told the clerk to lie down and used zip ties to handcuff the clerk's arms behind his back. The suspect left on foot and no vehicles were seen. The clerk was not injured.
A K-9 unit from the Lenexa Police Department conducted a brief track which led behind the business where it ended, indicating the suspect probably got into a vehicle.
Shawnee Police Department Major Bill Hisle tells Operation 100 News that "there are similarities in motive to the May 9th robbery," but it is not believed to be the same man.
