One person has died following a crash in Leavenworth County earlier today.
Troopers say at approximately 7:30 a.m., a 2002 Ford Explorer was northbound on 166th Street when the 16-year-old driver failed to yield to a tractor trailer that was westbound on U.S. Highway 24-40. The tractor trailer struck the passenger's door of the Explorer and both vehicles came to rest off of the roadway.

The driver of the Explorer has been identified as Tristan Hayes of Tonganoxie. He suffered serious injuries in the crash. His passenger, identified as 15-year-old, Sehalyn Hayes of Tonganoxie was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital where she died Tuesday afternoon.
The tractor trailer's driver, Wilban Araujo, 45 of Pensacola, Florida, was not injured in the crash.
