One person killed in early morning motorcycle accident

The Olathe Police Department's Traffic Unit is investigating after a man was killed in a motorcycle crash this morning.

Police say the accident was reported shortly after 4 a.m., in the area of Northgate Street and South Nelson Road.

Olathe Police arrived to find one sport bike down in the roadway and a person lying in the nearby grass.

Olathe Fire and Johnson County Med-Act arrived at the scene and reported that the person was deceased.

Police say the rider is a white male in his 40's. Initial reports from Police indicate that the male was traveling northbound on Northgate when his motorcycle left the roadway near Nelson road and crashed in the median.

Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to call Olathe Police at 913-782-0720.

One officer from the Shawnee Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit was at the crash scene assisting with the investigation.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Police have not released the victim's name.
