PHOTOS: Numerous vehicles damaged in overnight vandalism spree

Olathe Police say approximately 45 vehicles were damaged by vandals sometime overnight in Olathe.

Four of those vehicles were damaged in front of Tara Polca's home. She said both of her neighbor's have damaged vehicles as well.

Before 7 a.m. Friday, damaged vehicles could be seen on both sides of each street hit. Some of the damaged vehicles were parked in driveways, only feet from windows on the homes.

Police say they have not heard of any damage to homes.

The damage was first reported around 4:15 a.m., in the 1200 block of E. Johnston Street when a resident stepped outside to find their vehicle's window shattered and called police. Arriving officers found at least four vehicles on the street with damaged windows.

Just a few minutes later, officers were called to the 700 block of N. Mahaffie Street on reports of at least six vehicles with damaged windows.

Officers began checking surrounding streets and located at least four more vehicles with damage in the 700 block of N. Sunset Street.

Police believe the damage was done by someone with a BB gun. Officers say nothing has been reported stolen from any of the vandalized vehicles.

PHOTO: Fire causes $200,000 worth of damages, displaces three adults

Olathe firefighters worked an early morning house fire in the 900 block of E. 126th Terrace. The address is just north of E. Harold Street, which is E. 127th Street, and just east of N. Nelson Road.

Police and fire crews were dispatched at 4:12 a.m., Wednesday, after a 9-1-1 caller reported a fire in  the home's garage.

Olathe Police officers arrived to report that the three residents of the home had made it safely to the front yard. A resident told officers several propane tanks are stored inside the garage.

The first fire crew on the scene reported, "heavy fire from the garage of a two story, split level residence."

A car inside the garage also caught fire and was heavily damaged.

Fire officials say it took about an for the fire to be extinguished. An issue with the home's electrical wiring is believed to have been the cause of the fire. Damages are estimated at $200,000.

No injuries were reported. Three adults and three dogs were able to safely exit the home after being alerted by smoke detectors. Officials say the displaced family will be staying at an area hotel until other arraignments can be made.

The Lenexa Fire Department and Johnson County Med-Act also assisted on the call.

One person killed in early morning motorcycle accident

The Olathe Police Department's Traffic Unit is investigating after a man was killed in a motorcycle crash this morning.

Police say the accident was reported shortly after 4 a.m., in the area of Northgate Street and South Nelson Road.

Olathe Police arrived to find one sport bike down in the roadway and a person lying in the nearby grass.

Olathe Fire and Johnson County Med-Act arrived at the scene and reported that the person was deceased.

Police say the rider is a white male in his 40's. Initial reports from Police indicate that the male was traveling northbound on Northgate when his motorcycle left the roadway near Nelson road and crashed in the median.

Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to call Olathe Police at 913-782-0720.

One officer from the Shawnee Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit was at the crash scene assisting with the investigation.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Police have not released the victim's name.
