Possible explosive found in Overland Park apartment complex

The Overland Park Fire Department was called to the Wycliff West Apartments in the 10500 block of Mastin Street shortly before 11 this morning.

Fire officials say they were called after someone found what they believed to be a stick of dynamite near a dumpster. The person transported the possible explosive to the apartment clubhouse, where an employee called 911.

The Overland Park Police Department's Bomb Squad was called to the scene to investigate the item. An area around the clubhouse was secured according to a news release.

The item was determined to be a road flare. Officials say there is no danger of an explosion and the road flare has been removed from the premises. All roads have been reopened around the complex.

Man dies following Gardner crash

Gardner Police say the man involved in the Tuesday morning crash at 175th Street and Interstate 35 has died as a result of his injuries received in the crash.

Police have identified the man as, 49-year-old, Edward Joseph Jasperse of Gardner, Kansas. Authorities say Jasperse succumbed to his injuries late Tuesday afternoon.

The accident remains under investigation by the Gardner Police Department.

A 49-year-old, Gardner man was critically injured in a single vehicle accident this morning near Interstate 35.

Gardner Police say they were called to the 175th Street bridge over Interstate 35 at 8:02 a.m. on a single vehicle accident. Officers arrived at 8:05 to find one vehicle with heavy damage after colliding with the westbound concrete jersey barrier of the bridge.

Investigators say the vehicle was traveling eastbound on 175th Street over Interstate when, for unknown reasons, veered across oncoming lanes crashed into the jersey barrier.

Firefighters from Johnson County Fire District No. 1 responded to the scene and reported one person was pinned inside the heavily damaged vehicle and would require "extensive extrication". Crews worked for nearly 20 minutes to extricate the injured man from the vehicle.

A LifeFlight Eagle helicopter was requested to respond to the scene but, was later canceled and the man was transported to an area Trauma Center by Johnson County Med-Act.

No other information has been released at this time. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is assisting with the investigation according to a news release from the Gardner Police Department.

Olathe accident victim identified

Olathe Police have identified the victim as Arthea E. Saller, 82, of Overland Park, Kansas

Olathe Police say they are investigating a fatality accident that occurred Saturday evening.

Officers were called to the intersection of 151st Street and Pflumm Road for an injury accident at 5:28 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012.

Police say a Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on 151st Street and attempted to turn southbound on Pflumm Road when it was struck on the passenger's side by a Hyundai Elantra, which was traveling eastbound on 151st Street.

An 82-year-old female passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to an area hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Her identity has not been released.

Victim identified in fatal hit-and-run accident

Overland Park Police have identified the victim of last night's accident as 35-year-old Tiana J. Beall of Overland Park, Kansas. 

Authorities say they have located the vehicle involved in the accident. No arrests have been made in the case at this time. Detectives are actively pursuing leads and no other information is currently available.

Original Story:

Overland Park Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, late Tuesday night.

Around 10:40 p.m. emergency personnel responded to the area of W. 71st Street, just to the east of Metcalf Avenue on reports of a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian.

A 35-year-old, white female, was found critically injured. Johnson County Med-Act transported her to a local hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries. The victim has not been identified.

The Overland Park Police Department's Traffic Safety Officers continue to investigate the accident.

Police investigating Overland Park home invasion

Overland Park Police continue investigating following an aggravated robbery Tuesday evening.

Authorities say they were called to an address in the 9400 block of Nieman Road around 8:50 Tuesday evening on what was initially a 911 open line. Dispatchers reported hearing what they believed to be some type of disturbance in the background.

Officers arrived and made contact with a female who told them that two white males came through her front door, tied her up and hit her across the face with a handgun. The men demanded money and other items.

Following initial interviews, Police determined that the female was not the victim and was not home at the time the incident occurred. The actual victim is a male who remained at the residence and was afraid to talk to the police because he had outstanding warrants.

Police say they continue to investigate the incident as an aggravated robbery.

The suspects are said to be white males with heavy builds, both were last seen wearing white T-shirts. One man had brown hair and the other had blond hair. Both men were armed, one was carrying a shotgun and the other had a handgun.
