Stabbing suspect charged with attempted murder

As of Tuesday afternoon, court records show the suspect in Monday morning's stabbing and standoff in Gardner has been charged with attempted second-degree murder. 

Johnson County prosecutors have charged, 35-year-old, David Lee Conner, who is a Gardner resident. Conner is being held at the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Central Booking Center in Olathe on at $75,000 bond

Gardner Police also arrested a 31-year-old female resident of the same address Monday evening. Court records show that she was wanted for failure to appear on a theft charge.

Gardner Police and the Johnson County Sheriff's office are engaged in an apparent standoff with a stabbing suspect this morning.

Police were called to a mobile home in the 1000 block of Buffalo Trail around 1 a.m. Monday. The mobile home is part of the Conestoga Estates mobile home park, on east Santa Fe Street in Gardner, just south east of Main Street and Moonlight Road.

The suspect left the scene and was reportedly spotted running inside another mobile home in the same park.

Johnson County Med-Act reported a male with a stab wound to the neck, his injury was not believed to be immediately life threatening. The man was transported to an area hospital for further treatment.

Police quickly moved to the location where the alleged suspect is believed to be hiding out.

Gardner Police are currently confirming very few details surrounding the incident. Officers confirmed that the Johnson County Sheriff's Office's SERT is preparing to respond to the scene. SERT is the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team.

Shortly before 4 a.m., Johnson County's mobile command post arrived near the scene to assist. Reports indicate that at least two neighboring mobile homes have been evacuated as a precaution.

Police confirmed that the incident ended before 7 a.m.. Gardner Police say the Sheriff's Office SERT team was used in the incident but, this was not a standoff. SERT entered the mobile home after obtaining a search warrant. The stabbing suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Gardner Police say this appears to be a dispute over a woman. An ex-boyfriend or possibly ex-husband stabbed the woman's new boyfriend. Again, the stabbing victim is being treated at an area hospital. He is expected to be released today.

Standoff comes to an end in Shawnee apartment complex

Shawnee Police called out their Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team to assist with a situation at the Shawnee Station Apartments, late Thursday morning.

The apartments are on the northeast corner of W. 65th Street and Maurer Road.

Police were reportedly called to the area around 10:15 Thursday morning to check the welfare of a subject.

Around 11:30 a.m., Police could still be seen in the area of the apartment complex awaiting the arrival of the STAR Team.

Shortly after noon, Shawnee Police spokesperson Captain Dan Tennis told Operation 100 News, "there is currently an Operation 100 [situation involving a barricaded subject] going on at the Shawnee Station Apartments. There is a suicidal subject allegedly armed with a gun."

Johnson County Med-Act and Shawnee Fire were seen at the staging area near the Command Post.

Officials say the incident came to an end shortly after 2 p.m. when Police entered the apartment and found the man had taken his own life.

Shawnee Standoff

Update: Police say 56-year-old, Daniel Jennings surrendered peacefully, just before 4:50 p.m. Sunday. He was transported to the Johnson County Jail where he is currently being held on a $50,000 bond. Jennings faces charges of Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Assault. He is also set to undergo a mental evaluation.


Original Post: Shawnee Police have requested an "Operation 100" call out for a barricaded male in a house near the intersection of 67th Street and Halsey Street in Shawnee. 67th Street is closed to westbound traffic, just west of Quivira Road and closed to eastbound traffic at Long Avenue.

The situation stems from a domestic disturbance late Sunday morning at 11:09 a.m., according to a Police Officer on the scene. Police say a man allegedly pulled a knife on a female. The female was able to escape from the house and call for Police. Officers have dealt with this same man on previous occasions.

As of 2 p.m., Police say the man is communicating with Police and still refusing to come out of the house.

Reverse 911 calls were used to notify residents in surrounding homes of the situation. Those residents are being asked to evacuate or stay in the basement until the situation is over.

Tactical team called out in Shawnee

An Overland Park man, Jeffry Hurd, 32, has now been arraigned on several charges related to the Wednesday morning standoff. Those charges include; Reckless Stalking, Aggravated Assault, Battery/Domestic Violence, Criminal Damage to Property, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm. Hurd was also ordered to have a "Mental Health Evaluation" prior to being able to bond out. He is being held on at $10,000 bond in the Johnson County Jail. The next court date is scheduled for November 16, 2011.

The Shawnee Police Department worked a standoff situation "Operation 100" in the 10500 block of W 55th Street or just east of Nieman Road on W 55th Street. Police say the situation began before midnight.

A witness tells Operation 100 News he heard "12 pops," "around 11:30." He says a short time later he noticed flashing lights and "saw several units flying down 55th. I kept an eye out and saw one police car billowing smoke from the engine. The police were walking around with assault rifles." Police are not commenting on the report of a damaged police vehicle. The same witness also says police "set down stop sticks" in the area of the situation.

Shawnee Police's STAR Team was called out, shortly after midnight. Team members assembled at a staging area at West Flanders Park, on the northeast corner of 55th Street and Nieman Road.

The situation reportedly involved a male armed with a handgun in a parked vehicle, who possibly fired that weapon prior to the tactical call out. That male subject was communicating with Johnson County Dispatchers until negotiators arrived. The man was alone in the vehicle.

The man is alleged to be a suspect in crime that occurred in Prairie Village on Tuesday night. Prairie Village Police responded to the staging area in Shawnee to speak with the victim of that alleged crime.

Armored Tactical vehicles arrived at the scene and blocked the man's vehicle in place shortly after 1:30 a.m.. The man surrendered peacefully at 2:11 a.m.. He was cooperative with the negotiators and prior to surrendering tossed his weapons, including a gun, knife and collapsible baton, from a window of the vehicle.

Police from Merriam as well as Lenexa assisted in the beginning stages of the operation.

No injuries were reported. As standard procedure, a Johnson County Med-Act Tactical Medic responded to the scene.
