Authorities say they were called to an address in the 10000 block of Kessler Street at 11:48 p.m., Monday, on a reported drive-by shooting. The scene is just west of Antioch Road.
Police arrived to learn that the suspect had fled from the scene in a vehicle and a child had been wounded.
Johnson County Med-Act determined the child's injuries to be serious. The boy is said to have a single gunshot wound to the left shoulder. He was transported to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. As of 4:15 a.m., Police say the boy is in stable condition.
Authorities say there were several children and one adult in the home when the shots were fired. No one else was injured.
Witnesses reported hearing as many as six gunshots.
Police have not released any suspect information. Officers have information on the alleged suspect and are working to locate him.
