The Kansas Department of Corrections announced this afternoon that escaped Lansing Inmate Gary Leslie Furthmyer is back in custody.

Authorities says that Furthmyer was captured around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in the 600 block of Nebraska Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.

Officials say they received more than a dozen tips regarding Furthmyer and one of those led directly to his arrest.

Officers booked Furthmyer into the Wyandotte County Jail on Wednesday afternoon where he will await transfer back to the Lansing Correctional Facility.

Furthmyer walked away from his minimum security job assignment at the Lansing Correctional Facility's steam plant around 3 a.m., April 18th.

There were several possible sightings of Furthmyer including several near a downtown Kansas City, Missouri homeless shelter last Friday.

His sentence was six to 25 years for a conviction of indecent liberties with a child and aggravated failure to appear, in 1985.
