Furthmyer was serving a sentence of up to 25 years for Indecent Liberties with a child. He was sentenced in 1986, according to KDOC records. His earliest possible release date was October 2014. He is described as a fair skinned white male, 5'9" tall, 185lbs, with blue eyes and brown hair.

KDOC says that all escapees should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Gary Leslie Furthmyer is urged to call 911 or the Lansing Correctional Facility at 913-727-3235.
