Olathe Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a man's fall from a third floor balcony this morning.

Police say they were called to an address in the 400 block of W Poplar Street around 4:50 Monday morning. Officers received at least one report of a disturbance with possible gunshots heard, according to a source familiar with the incident.

Johnson County Med-Act and Olathe Fire responded to stage nearby until Police could confirm that the scene was safe for them to enter. When crews were allowed into the scene, they reported a male with critical injuries. The man, only described as being "approximately 40", was said to be alert and extremely combative with paramedics. He was transported to an area trauma center for further treatment.
