Crews were called to the home in the 7400 block of Cottonwood Street at 11:34 Wednesday night.
The residents were able to get out of the house prior to the fire department's arrival.
Smoke and fire was visible from the roof of the two story home when fire crews arrived.
Shawnee Fire Marshal Corey Sands says, "lightning struck the home, causing the wood shake roof to catch fire."
The fire was declared under control shortly before midnight.
"The rain helped slow down the progression of the fire, and kept the fire in check above the bedroom," says Fire Marshal Sands.
No one was injured.
