Man accidentally shoots himself while handling a firearm

Johnson County authorities are investigating after a man accidentally shot himself in the stomach this morning in Overland Park.

Police, Fire and Med-Act crews were dispatched to a duplex in the 9400 block of Taylor Drive shortly before 1 a.m. Monday. The address is just to the northeast of 95th Street and Switzer Road.



A source familiar with the incident tells Operation 100 News that a 25-year-old man was attempting to unload a firearm, when it discharged. The round struck the man in the stomach area.

Johnson County Med-Act crews say the man's injury is serious but, not immediately life threatening.

The man was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Overland Park Police continue to investigate the incident and are not currently releasing any other details.
