Attempted abduction reported in Johnson County

As you first saw from Operation 100 News on Twitter (post below) this morning, there has been another attempted abduction of a child in Johnson County. This is the third attempt within the last two weeks.

Overland Park Police say they are investigating after a 14-year-old female walking to her bus stop was approached by an unknown man. The incident occurred near 80th Street and Glenwood Street around 8:30 Tuesday morning. Police say the girl attends Indian Hills Middle School in Prairie Village.

The victim says the man was driving a white pickup truck, stopped beside her and told her to get in. The man was holding a black handgun, but did not point it at the victim. The victim ran away from the suspect towards her bus stop. The suspect left the area.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30's. He was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and wire rimmed glasses. He also had a trimmed beard and mustache.

Two earlier attempted abductions were reported in Shawnee. The first occurred January 25th. The second occurred February 1st.

Second attempted abduction reported within seven days in Shawnee

Shawnee Police say they are investigating a second attempted abduction in about a week's time. The first attempt reportedly occurred on Friday, January 25th and this most recent incident is said to have occurred on Friday, February 1, 2013.

Police say they were contacted by a juvenile male and his mother who reported that the juvenile was approached by an unknown man while walking home, in the 7400 block of Bond Street.

The juvenile tells police that he noticed at 2000's model faded red SUV, possibly a Cadillac Escalade or GMS Denali with tinted windows, parked on the street. As he approached the vehicle, a black male got out of the driver's side and attempted to grab the boy while telling him to "get in the car." The boy ran from the unknown man to his home where he called his mother and reported what happened.

The boy described the suspect as a black man, approximately 28-35 years old, 5ft 10in tall, weighing 150-175lbs. and wearing a red sleeveless shirt, blue jeans and Nike Air Jordan basketball shoes. The suspect is said to have shoulder length dread locks, possibly with beads woven into the hair. He was also wearing a black ball cap with a flat bill being worn backwards. The boy tells police that the man also had a scar on his left arm and a tattoo on his upper right arm, and may have some gold caps on his teeth.

Police say they checked the area after receiving the information and were not able to located any subjects or vehicles matching the description.

Shawnee girl reports attempted abduction

Shawnee Police are investigating after a 12-year-old girl reported an attempted abduction.

Police say the incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. on Friday, January 25th, in the 14400 block of W 67th Street. The girl was walking eastbound to her bus stop, when she says there were two men walking westbound on the opposite side of the street.

Both men are said to be in their 20's, one is a white male and the other is a black male. The girl tells Police that the white male yelled across the street, asking if she would like to come to his house. The 12-year-old replied 'no' and began running away eastbound along 67th Street. At that time both men reportedly crossed the street and began to chase the girl.

The girl tells Police that she ran a short distance when a gold sedan, driven by a black male in his 20's with short dreadlocks, pulled into a driveway and blocked her path. The driver again asked the girl "you want to come with us?"

Police say the girl then crossed 67th Street and ran northbound through backyards of several homes. She says that when she looked back she observed the first two men get into the gold vehicle, which then left westbound on 67th Street. The girl continued to her bus stop and went to school. She did not report the incident to her mother until after school that afternoon. The girl's mother contacted Police on Saturday, January 26th.

A statement from Police on Monday, says that the vehicle involved is a gold unknown type four door sedan.

Lenexa Police seeking information regarding vehicle seen near attempted abduction

Lenexa Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating the occupant and driver of the vehicle seen in this traffic camera footage.

Police say this vehicle was in the area of Sunday's attempted abduction and matches the description of the description given by the victim.

Original report:

The Lenexa Police Department says an 11-year-old boy was nearly abducted early Sunday afternoon.

Police say the boy was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk near the intersection of 101st Street and Cherry Lane, at approximately 2:15 p.m., when he noticed a vehicle slowly pass him traveling the opposite direction.

Seeing this as suspicious, the boy dismounted his bicycle in preparation to flee if confronted. The vehicle pulled along side of him and a male passenger is said to have pointed a black handgun at the boy and told him to "get in the car." The boy ran to a nearby business to report what happened.

The suspect vehicle is a white 4-door passenger car, unknown make or model. The car was only described as being dirty. The passenger who was armed with the handgun is described as a white male with a dark complexion, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The boy was unable to get a good look at the driver of the vehicle. The vehicle was last seen driving westbound on 101st Street towards Woodland Road.

Police say the juvenile was very alert to his surroundings and knew that he shouldn't get into the vehicle under any circumstances.
