Armed robbery reported at JoCo apartment complex

Overland Park Police are investigating after an armed robbery at the Cherbourg Apartments, near 87th Street and Glenwood Street.

Police say the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. but was not reported to police until 4:40 a.m..

The apartment residents, a man and a woman, tell police that four men kicked in the apartment door and demanded money. All four of the men were wearing ski masks.

A statement from Overland Park Police says that one of the suspects was  "carrying some type of rifle and another had a handgun."

Earlier reports indicated that one of the suspects was armed with a TEC-9 or similar style weapon, a second suspect was carrying an assault rifle, possibly an AK-47 and a third suspect had a pistol.

All of the suspects were described as black males wearing ski masks. The men took electronics, jewelry and clothing items before leaving the apartment.

Overland Park Police believe the victims were specifically targeted.

No one was injured.

Critical injuries reported in early morning stabbing

Overland Park Police are investigating after a man was found stabbed on his front porch this morning.

The call was dispatched just before 3:30 Wednesday morning and occurred in the 6400 block of W. 151st Place. The scene is southeast of 151st Street and Glenwood Street The victim and suspect reportedly live just across the street from each other.

Initial reports indicate that the stabbing was part of a disturbance between neighbors. The alleged suspect is said to be the one who called 911 to report the incident to police.

Johnson County Med-Act reports the victim to be in critical condition. He was transported to an area trauma center for further treatment.

Overland Park Police apprehended the suspect, who surrendered himself to officers when they arrived on the scene.

A Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy who was nearby, also responded on the initial call.


A source familiar with the incident tells Operation 100 News that the stabbing involved a sword or very large knife and the wound is "very deep and wide." The stab wound is said to be in the lower chest area.

No other details were immediately available.

Attempted abduction reported in Johnson County

As you first saw from Operation 100 News on Twitter (post below) this morning, there has been another attempted abduction of a child in Johnson County. This is the third attempt within the last two weeks.

Overland Park Police say they are investigating after a 14-year-old female walking to her bus stop was approached by an unknown man. The incident occurred near 80th Street and Glenwood Street around 8:30 Tuesday morning. Police say the girl attends Indian Hills Middle School in Prairie Village.

The victim says the man was driving a white pickup truck, stopped beside her and told her to get in. The man was holding a black handgun, but did not point it at the victim. The victim ran away from the suspect towards her bus stop. The suspect left the area.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30's. He was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and wire rimmed glasses. He also had a trimmed beard and mustache.

Two earlier attempted abductions were reported in Shawnee. The first occurred January 25th. The second occurred February 1st.
