Shawnee Police are investigating after two people attempted to break into a liquor store early Monday.

Police were dispatched to an alarm at Merigold Liquors, at 5907 Nieman Road at 2:09 a.m..

A police K-9 unit was nearby when the call came out and reported two people running from the back of the building. A 16-year-old male was quickly taken into custody near the store.

Officers from Shawnee, Merriam, and Lake Quivira set up a perimeter around the area to search for the second suspect. The perimeter was held for about an hour as officers searched for the second suspect.

In a news release, Sgt. Tom Lynch says the second suspect was not found during the search.

Police believe the suspects were attempting to enter the store through a rear door. Their attempts were unsuccessful and nothing was taken from the store.

Sgt. Lynch also says that a vehicle which was parked behind the store, was towed from the scene and taken to the police station.
