A Sunday evening apartment fire in Mission remains under investigation.
Firefighters from Consolidated Fire District No. 2, the Overland Park Fire Department, along with paramedics from Johnson County Med-Act were dispatched to the Bridges at Foxridge apartments, 6909 West 51st Place in Mission, just before 6:40 p.m. Sunday.
In a news release Monday morning, Consolidated Fire District No. 2 Deputy Chief Steve Chick says the call started as a report of smoke in the building.
"As units arrived on scene, they quickly made the call for a "regular alarm" building fire response," Deputy Chief Chick said in the release. "One victim was located within minutes of entering the structure and immediately removed to the exterior of the structure for assessment."
Firefighters and Med-Act Paramedics initially found that the person was in cardiac arrest, the release says. Resuscitation the victim regain a pulse before being transported from the scene.
The person was transported by Johnson County Med-Act to the University of Kansas Hosptial's Burn Unit.
Deputy Chief Chick says the person died overnight.
The person who died is not being identified at this time.
Consolidated Fire District No. 2's Fire Marshal along with representatives from the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Officer are on scene this morning working to determine what caused the fire.
