Arrest made in Saturday morning homicide | Police continue to investigate

A 29-year-old Lawrence man faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in the 2400 block of Cedarwood Avenue early Saturday.

The shooting was reported just before 3:10 a.m.. Officers located a male, now identified as Patrick D. Roberts, 39, with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews reported the Roberts' injuries to be critical. Medics rushed him to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A resident in the area told police that a person ran from the building eastbound and then northbound towards 23rd Street. That person was only described as a male wearing a black jacket.

Police detained two people for questioning shortly after the shooting. One ran from an officer in the area of 27th Street and Redbud Lane. He was apprehended at 4:25 a.m..

Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley tells the Lawrence Journal-World that Dustin D. Walker, 29 was arrested shortly after 9 a.m..

The second person that was detained for questioning was released later Saturday morning.
