Merriam Police are investigating after two men reportedly broke into a home in the 9500 block of 59th Terrace early Saturday.
The call started when someone inside the home called 9-1-1 and left the line open. Dispatchers couldn't hear much on the phone and sent officers to check the address.
Officers arrived to learn that two men had broken in and battered the two residents. One of the residents sustained a serious injury, possibly after being struck with a baseball bat.
One suspect was detained by officers and the second suspect is said to still be at large. He is only described as a white male, wearing camouflage.
Shawnee Police sent several officers to assist Merriam with holding a perimeter in the area and Lenexa Police sent a K-9 to attempt to track the suspect. The track did not turn up any leads on the second suspect's whereabouts.
Johnson County Med-Act transported the residents of the address to an area hospital to be checked out.
Police say the incident remains under investigation. A public information officer was not immediately available to comment on the incident.
