The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating an accident on Interstate 435 at Johnson Drive in Shawnee that occurred just before 2:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Troopers say, 20-year-old, Niquetta Wilson of Kansas City, Kansas, was killed in the accident. Wilson was driving, a 1997 Ford Taurus, southbound on I-435, in the left (inside) lane when "for unknown reason, vehicle drifted" off of the road into the grassy median, struck a large bump and became airborne. The vehicle then struck a center median bridge pillar. Niquetta Wilson was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Investigators say Niquetta Wilson was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.
The Shawnee Fire Department was assisted by the Lenexa Fire Department. Edwardsville Fire was also dispatched to the scene but was canceled when the location of the accident was confirmed to be inside Shawnee city limits.
