Deputy involved shooting leaves 1 dead

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal, officer involved shooting that occurred around 7:30 p.m. at 238 North Keeler Street in Olathe.

Several witnesses claim to have watched the events that led up to the shooting. At this time, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office will only say that a Deputy did shoot a person to death. No Deputies were injured.

A News Release from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office states that a Deputy observed a vehicle facing the wrong way on Buchanan Street. The Deputy stopped to investigate and one person fled on foot. A second deputy encountered this male subject a short time later in the 200 block of Keeler. During this encounter the deputy fired his weapon and the suspect was struck. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Both deputies involved in this incident were not injured.

Early Friday morning, Investigators have identified 46-year-old Matthew White as the man who was shot to death by a Deputy.

According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, White served time incarcerated for Aggravated Battery causing great bodily harm and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. He was paroled on July 15, 2011 and remained under supervision by Johnson County. He was categorized as a "High" Supervision Level
