Pedestrian critically injured in hit and run crash

Shawnee Police confirmed late Wednesday that a 43-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle on Midland Drive.

A press release says Officers were dispatched to the 17400 block of Midland Drive. At the location, officers located a female who had been struck by a vehicle while she was walking on Midland Drive.

Police say her injuries are not considered to be life threatening. The striking vehicle and driver were later located in the area. Investigators do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing. According to the press release, "once the investigation is complete the case will be forwarded to the Johnson County District Attorney's office for review of possible criminal charges."

Shawnee Police are investigating after a woman on foot along Midland Drive was struck by a passing vehicle shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Midland Drive just to the west of Interstate 435. Police arrived on the scene to find a female in a grassy area just off the roadway in the 17400 block of Midland Drive.

Shawnee Fire and Johnson County Med-Act assessed the woman to be in her early 40's and critically injured. She was transported to an area trauma center for treatment.

A source familiar with the investigation tells Operation 100 News that the woman suffered "face and leg injuries. Her shoes were found on Midland Drive and the woman was knocked into the grass off of the side of the road."

Police closed Midland Drive between Elmridge Road and Red Oak Drive as they investigated the accident. Midland Drive has since been reopened.

Shawnee Police are confirming very few details surrounding this investigation.
