President of Colombia receiving award in Lawrence today

Law Enforcement from across the area is converging on Lawrence, Kansas this morning as someone who KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little describes as "one of KU's most distinguished Alumni" returns to receive an award. Officers from several agencies including; the United States Secret Service, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Lawrence Police, University of Kansas Public Safety, Kansas Highway Patrol, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Olathe Police, and Lenexa Police are involved in providing security.

Juan Manuel Santos, president of the Republic of Colombia will be honored for his public service as part of a public event at the Dole Institute. He will be the recipient of the Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award, the most prestigious award given by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The 2:30 p.m. event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 1 p.m.. Seating will be limited. Public parking is available only in the Lied lot south of Petefish Drive, across from the Dole Institute.

Santos earned degrees in economics and business at the University of Kansas in 1973.
