Suspect arrested in Merriam shooting

Update: Merriam Police say the man who was shot early this morning, was asleep on the couch when he was shot by a roommate. The victim tells police that they had not been arguing and he does not know what led his roommate to shoot him.

Investigators say the victim is expected to fully recover from his injuries. The suspect was located in the hallway, outside of the apartment, when officers arrived at the scene.

One man was critically injured early Friday morning in a Merriam shooting.

Merriam Police were called to an address in the 7300 block of Brittany Street at 3:26 a.m. on a report of a shooting inside an apartment.

Officers arrived to find several subjects inside the apartment, one who had been shot at least once, the other subjects were detained.

The victim is described as a male in his early 50's with at least one gunshot wound to the left shoulder. His injuries are said to be critical. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Few details are currently being released as Police continue to investigate what led up to the shooting.

Several Shawnee officers responded and assisted Merriam in securing the scene.
