Yelekal "Kal" Alemu found deceased in rural Douglas County

UPDATE: Douglas County officials confirmed Friday that the body found on Thursday is that of Yelekal Alemu. Mr. Alemu was reported missing on May 12th. Police do not suspect foul play in his death. His vehicle was found in the same area shortly after his disappearance. More on this story can be found here from my reporting partners at the Lawrence Journal-World.

Lawrence Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a missing adult.

Police say Yelekal Alemu, also known as Kal, was last seen since Saturday morning, May 12, 2012. Family and Friends tell Police that Mr. Alemu has failed to show up for important family gatherings. Alemu's vehicle was located later Saturday evening in rural Douglas County, southeast of Lawrence. His whereabouts remain unknown.

Yelekal Alemu is a 23-year-old, black male who stands 5'10" and weighs approximately 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a striped shirt (pictured below).


Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr Alemu, is urged to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or the Douglas County CrimeStoppers Tips Hotline at 785-843-TIPS (8477). Calls to the Tips Hotline can be may anonymously and rewards for information in this case may be available.
